COOLIDGE, Arizona — The states neighboring Mexico are looking at options, along with the federal government, on how to build a fence or wall along the border.Build 218 miles of border fence with access roads for the Border Patrol. Incorporate high-tech surveillance and facial recognition cameras. Promise the job will be completed in a year, at a cost of .285 billion dollars. That bold sales pitch brought members of Congress from nine states to Coolidge, Airzona on Tuesday."When they said they had secured a bond for the full amount of the contract to build the 220 some odd miles in a year on budget, on time, that's got to be attractive does it not?" said East Valley Congressman Andy Biggs. Biggs arranged an up close look at how Fisher proposes to install the wall along four sections of the border: 42 miles near Yuma, 69 miles near El Paso, Texas, 16 miles near El Centro, California and the longest stretch 91-miles south of Tucson. "I want to show we're not just building a barrier. We're building infrastructure for Border Patrol Agents," said Fisher President and CEO Tommy Fisher. Fisher says his team can dig a trench insert the iron-steel fence and fill in the base with concrete at a rate of a mile a day. "I am impressed," Congressman Biggs said, "it seems a pretty efficient way to do it."Fisher's original bid was rejected because the company said it was penalized for not doing any current work on the border. The demonstration was an attempt to build support in Congress that it should be reconsidered. The members who came to Coolidge were all Republicans. No Democrats showed. They were invited Congressman Biggs said, "I would have loved for them to come," Biggs said, "Even if they walked away feeling different about things than I do, I will still like them to see this." Congresswoman Debbie Lesko, who represents the West Valley and is a member of the Homeland Security Committee said, "on the border wall they will not give at all. They don't want any money coming to a border fence or border wall. That's unfortunate. It's part of the solution."Congressman Biggs and Congresswoman Lesko say there is money available from drug interdiction, asset forfeiture, and the federal budget which can be used to fund border wall construction while the courts decide whether the President's Emergency Declaration is legal. Whether Fisher Industries gets a second chance to build it is still to be determined. 2444

DENVER, Colo. — Several Denver police officers stepped up to make sure the daughter of a fallen detective had the perfect wedding. “That was a really hard thing to think about, walking down the aisle without him,” Kourtney Krietemeier told KMGH. Her father, Denver Police Det. Donnie Young, was killed in the line of duty in 2005.Her aunt recommended having some of Young’s former colleagues walk her down the aisle and her mother offered to step in for the father-daughter dance. On her wedding day, she danced with her mother for a few minutes, but when the song changed — to one she instantly recognized — she knew something was up. “When I was super young, my dad got me a small replica of his badge with his badge number on it and he played that song when he gave it to me,” she said. “I was shocked. I just knew the tears were going to be flowing.”One of the Denver police officers who worked with her father took her mother's spot and danced with her. One by one, her father's multiple former colleagues took their turn dancing with the bride. She said they told her things she would have heard from her father that day — how proud they were of her, how excited they were for her. And how special her father was to them. Krietemeier said they are all close family friends who never left their side in the 14 years since her father’s death. This story was originally published by Jessica Porter at KMGH. 1420

DAYTON, Ohio — The city of Dayton battened down the hatches Saturday for a rally event held by the Ku Klux Klan. After the events of Charlottesville, city officials in Ohio weren't taking any chances as the notorious hate group exercised their first amendment rights. Officers and security aid came in from Cincinnati, Columbus and even Toledo as counterprotesters poured into Dayton. The city of Dayton blocked streets with large trucks Saturday and brought in officers from other jurisdictions to keep protesters separated from members of an obscure Klan group called the Honorable Sacred Knights. The group obtained a permit for the rally months ago. City officials and community leaders organized an effort called Dayton United Against Hate.In the end, only nine members of the Klan showed up, and could barely be seen through the double chain-link fence and wall of police. Protesters rallied around the fence, chanting anti-hate rhetoric and waving signs at the members inside.Although the event ended without a hitch, or even a single arrest, Dayton itself didn't get through as unscathed as things may have looked.Dayton City Manager Shelley Dickstein said the city estimated it spent about 0,000 on security costs for the event.City officials said many of the security measures implemented Saturday were intended specifically to keep Dayton residents safe with concealed carry and open carry of weapons.Dickstein said the city estimated around 0,000 was spent on personnel costs and 0,000 on materials needed for the rally.“We have very little way to recapture that spent money,” Dickstein said.Richard Biehl, Dayton police chief, said he was “very pleased” with security Saturday.“This clearly was a safety challenge for our city and our community,” he said.Biehl said his department did not make any arrests, and no use of force or injuries were reported. DALLAS, Texas – Brandt Jean, the brother of the Botham Jean, whom Amber Guyger shot and killed last year, told the former Dallas police officer he forgives her and didn't want her to go to prison. After giving his victim impact statement, Brandt went over to Guyger and the two hugged as Guyger bawled."I love you as a person and I don't want to wish anything bad on you," Jean said before they hugged for nearly 30 seconds.A Texas jury found Guyger guilty of murder in Botham’s 2018 killing. Guyger faced between five years and life for the shooting, but jurors ultimately gave her a 10-year sentence on Wednesday.Guyger was found guilty despite the ex-officer’s defense that she mistakenly walked into the wrong apartment and opened fire because she thought Jean was an intruder.Guyger was actually at the apartment directly above hers, which belonged to the 872
