SAN DIEGO - A crash into a fire hydrant sent a geyser of water 50 feet in the air and flooded homes in Chollas Creek Sunday afternoon, witnesses said.The accident happened around 2 p.m. when witnesses said a U-Haul backed into a fire hydrant near the 5000 block of University Avenue. The hydrant broke, sending water shooting into the air.A home, several cars and some apartments nearby were flooded. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 45-year-old man got into an argument with two males at the entrance to an alley in San Diego's Valencia Park neighborhood and was shot in the back Friday evening.The shooting was reported just before 8 p.m. at the entrance to an alley at 53rd Street and Imperial Avenue, San Diego Police Department Officer Robert Heims said.The man was standing with his girlfriend when the two males walked up, argued and one male fired several shots at the victim, hitting him once in the back, Heims said. The suspects fled the scene in separate vehicles, one of them red.Paramedics took the victim to a hospital where his injury was not believed life-threatening, Heims said.Gang detectives were investigating, Heims said. 738

David Williams Haas, 50, faces charges of conspiracy to commit bribery, bribery and conspiracy to commit honest services fraud. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 22-year-old man was behind bars Friday on suspicion of robbing a Cherokee Point smoke shop at knifepoint, police said.The robbery was reported shortly after 11:30 p.m. Thursday at MA Smoke Shop, 3543 University Ave., San Diego police Officer Robert Heims said.The suspect, later identified as Mario Chavez, walked into the smoke shop and selected several items from a display, the officer said.He then allegedly walked up to the clerk holding a knife and demanded a lighter, Heims said. The clerk contacted police while the suspect was standing at the counter, then officers arrived a short time later and arrested Chavez, who was still in the store.Chavez was booked into San Diego Central Jail around 3:40 a.m. Friday on suspicion of robbery, according to jail records. 799
