The line of well-dressed celebrities waiting to chat with E! on the Oscars red carpet might be a little shorter this year.As Ryan Seacrest continues to defend himself against an allegation of sexual harassment, E! has chosen to stand by its longtime host, saying this week that he will occupy his usual post front and center of the action on the red carpet during Hollywood's biggest night. The decision will leave E!, its hosts, and the celebrities set to walk the red carpet in a difficult position on an occasion that marks both the culmination of Hollywood's award season and the first Academy Awards since the #MeToo and Time's Up movements forced the entertainment industry to address its issues with sexual harassment and gender-related inequity."I don't think [Seacrest is] going to have a great time on the carpet," one longtime Hollywood publicist tells CNN.News that Seacrest was facing workplace misconduct allegations first came to light in November, when Seacrest released a preemptive statement denying the accusations and revealing that E! was conducting an investigation.E! concluded its probe in early February, saying in a statement at the time that outside counsel "found insufficient evidence to substantiate allegations against Seacrest."The allegations received new steam on Monday, when in an interview with Variety, Seacrest's former stylist, Suzie Hardy, detailed instances where she said he groped and sexually harassed her.NBC's "Today" show aired a report on Wednesday in which a former co-worker of Hardy's, who NBC did not identify at the source's request, corroborated her story. In response, Seacrest's attorney, Andrew Baum, claimed the witness who spoke with "Today" had also participated in E!'s third-party investigation."He was interviewed and his claims were fully evaluated," Baum said in a statement to CNN.On Tuesday, Seacrest again denied Hardy's allegations in a statement to CNN, saying in part, "I don't want to accuse anyone of not telling the truth but in this case, I have no choice but to again deny the claims against me, remind people that I was recused of any wrongdoing, and put the matter to rest."Insistent as Seacrest is about his innocence, it may not be enough to clear the air before Sunday."It's probably easiest for some [celebrities] to avoid E!," the veteran publicist added. When asked whether executives at E! were concerned Seacrest's presence could deter celebrities from participating in the network's Oscars coverage, an E! spokesperson told CNN, "It's business as usual. Ryan will be hosting as scheduled on Sunday."At January's Golden Globes, which took place after the allegations were first known but before E! had concluded its investigation, Seacrest seemingly had no trouble getting famous faces to join him on air. However, Seacrest and co-host Giuliana Rancic were criticized on social media for not placing what some felt was sufficient focus on the activist guests who accompanied several nominees involved with the Time's Up movement. The E! hosts also had to contend with a few awkward encounters in which they were questioned about the network's handling of a pay dispute with former on-air personality Catt Sadler.Sadler left E! in December after she says the network declined to close a pay gap she'd discovered between her and a male colleague of similar standing. In a statement at the time, a spokesperson for E! said the network "compensates employees fairly and appropriately based on their roles, regardless of gender."Eva Longoria, Debra Messing and Laura Dern were among those who called out E! while being interviewed at the Golden Globes."I'm sure a few will still stop and talk to Ryan, but I would assume that there are several celebrities that will confront him based on this and/or build on the E! situation with Catt [Sadler]," the veteran publicist added. "Some will avoid [speaking with E!] all together. There are a lot of cameras on the carpet and one isn't going to make that big of a difference."E! is arguably the most visible -- and therefore popular among publicists -- red carpet broadcaster.Last year, E! averaged 2.03 million viewers during the first three hours of its Oscars red carpet coverage and 1.74 million in the last half hour, per Nielsen data.Though a fraction of ABC's preshow numbers (15.9 million viewers from 7-8:30 p.m.), it's a solid ratings result for E!, whose top-rated program, "Keeping Up with the Kardashians," pulls in about 1.5 million viewers per episode. With hours of preshow programming to fill, E! is one of the few entertainment-focused outlets that pay exorbitant fees to broadcast live. Competitors like Entertainment Tonight and Access Hollywood record interviews on the red carpet to air on their syndicated shows the following day.E! places correspondents in multiple positions around the site, including a bridge that overlooks the scene at the Dolby Theater. On the red carpet, few hosts can compete with the weight Seacrest's name carries among influential circles in the entertainment industry, the sector that controls where celebrities make stops during promotional tours and appearances. In addition to contributing to E!'s red carpet coverage for more than a decade, his gigs as host of a syndicated radio program, host of "American Idol," and co-host of "Live with Kelly and Ryan" have left him with plenty of goodwill and friends in the industry. Two former colleagues of Seacrest who worked with him at E! News told CNN they never witnessed any harassment and described him as a "consummate professional."Another top film publicist calls the accusation against Seacrest "a bit of a witch hunt," acknowledging too that they were "definitely sympathetic to every woman's horrific experience.""There has to be a better way to deal with past transgressions and make sure they don't happen again without destroying so many careers."  5892

The Honda CR-V, one of the most popular vehicles in America, is plagued by a potentially dangerous engine problem that could cause the small SUVs to lose power or even stall, according to Consumer Reports magazine. In some CR-Vs, gasoline can leak into the SUV's engine oil. That can eventually cause the engine to lose power or stall completely. Several Consumer Reports subscribers reported the issue which has also been the subject of of dozens of complaints to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, according to the magazine. Many more owners have complained of the problem in online forums, Consumer Reports said.Several CR-V owners have posted complaints with NHTSA reporting a strong smell of unburned gasoline as a result of fuel getting into the engine's lubricating oil.A Honda spokesman took issue with Consumer Reports' contention that the problem is widespread, saying there are hundreds of thousands of CR-Vs on the road so a problem affecting even a tiny percentage of them could result in a fairly large number of complaints.Honda's Chris Martin said the automaker is working to figure out a fix for the problem and hopes to have one ready by mid-November. Honda does not consider the problem to be a safety threat requiring a recall. Owners with concerns about the problem should visit a Honda dealer for an inspection. Any needed repairs will be covered under their warranty, the automaker said.Consumer Reports counters that the issue is, indeed, safety related."There are many ways stalling can be a safety issue, so if these cars are stalling, they need to be recalled," said David Friedman, vice president for Advocacy at Consumer Reports and a former acting NHTSA director. The problem occurs in 2017 and 2018 CR-Vs with Honda's new 1.5-liter turbocharged engine. Somehow, gasoline is getting into the car's lubricating oil which should not normally happen, Consumer Reports said. That dilutes the engine oil making it less effective at lubricating the engine. Over time, that can lead to engine damage and loss of power or stalling, especially on cold days or in heavy traffic.Honda says the problem has occurred mostly in northern parts of the country during short drives in extreme cold weather. Consumer Reports said the problem had been reported to the magazine by CR-V owners as far south as Texas and New Mexico.Honda spokesman Martin took issue with Consumer Reports' contention that the problem is geographically more widespread than the automaker says. Honda also pointed out that it is normal for small amounts of gasoline to find their way into the engine's oil but it usually burns away during continued driving."While others may easily complain online of experiencing something similar under other circumstances," Martin said in an email, "it is premature and a bit irresponsible to link them all together without physical inspections of the vehicles, which is what [Consumer Reports] has done here."Honda has recalled CR-Vs in China for a similar issue. But, Honda said those vehicles do not have precisely the same engine used in CR-Vs sold in the United States,When an automaker issues a safety recall in the United States, it is legally required to fix the problem, at no charge to the owner, in all potentially affected vehicles. Automakers frequently do other sorts of updates and fixes to vehicles, at their discretion, without necessarily fixing the problem in all vehicles. 3439

The hit TV show 'Fixer Upper' is coming back! This time around, it'll be aired on Joanna and Chip Gaines' Magnolia Network. The show originally aired for five seasons on HGTV, with the last episode airing in 2018. But starting in 2021, the show will make its way to a new home, the renovating duo announced in a blog post on their website on Tuesday. “The day we wrapped our final episode of ‘Fixer Upper,’ we really believed it was a chapter closed," the couple said in the blog post. "We knew we needed a break and a moment to catch our breath. But we also knew we weren’t done dreaming about ways to make old things new again. These past few years, we’ve continued tackling renovations and projects, doing the work we’re passionate about, but I don't think either of us anticipated how the show would become such a permanent fixture in our hearts. We’ve missed sharing the stories of these families and their homes with you, and we’re excited to do that again very soon!” 981

The grandmother of a missing 5-year-old Dickson, Tennessee boy said she has been cooperating with law enforcement after her stepson was arrested for his death.Belle Daniels spoke to Scripps station WTVF in Nashville the night several vigils were being held for her grandson, Joe Clyde Daniels."Right now, we’re feeling that it’s a nightmare, and we’re hoping to get closure soon," said Belle. The boy, who had autism and was nonverbal, was first reported missing by his parents the morning of April 4.Hundreds of volunteers and law enforcement agencies responded to help search for the boy, but on Saturday, the rescue search turned into a recovery effort.Investigators with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Dickson County Sheriff's Office said 28-year-old Joseph Daniels confessed to killing his son and hiding his body. “It’s shocking because you raise a child from way back, and you think you know him. You don’t think your child could kill his own baby," said Belle. Belle said she was with her husband in Texas because he is a truck driver. That's when they heard that their grandson disappeared.“When we found out about it, my heart just sunk. We didn’t know what was going on, and when they couldn’t get leads, I thought somebody abducted him," she added. She returned on Friday right before he was arrested for one count of criminal homicide. She said she doesn't know why her son would commit the alleged crime. “We’re doing the best we can do, and I want people to know from the bottom of my heart I appreciate everything that law enforcement, churches, and all of the media that has done for us," Belle said.On Sunday, a smaller group of search crews continued to search for the child's remains.Sheriff Jeff Bledsoe scaled back efforts to give crews much needed rest.He said the search will continue with local special response teams on Monday, and they will assess areas needing to be covered. 1966

The number of empty apartments available to rent in Manhattan soared to its highest level in recent history this summer. There are more than 13,000 apartments on the market in the heart of New York City, according to a real estate report from Douglas Elliman and Miller Samuel. The group says this is the most inventory they have seen in Manhattan in 14 years of keeping track.July’s spike of 13,117 available units is an increase over June’s inventory of 10,789.For context, July 2020’s inventory is nearly 122 percent higher than last year; in July 2019 there were roughly 5,900 available apartments. The group also says July had the biggest year-over-year drop in median rent price in nearly nine years. The median rental price for an apartment in Manhattan, including anything from a studio to a 3-bedroom, was ,320 in July, and was ,595 in July 2019.The report also tracks the Queens and Brooklyn rental market. Both saw huge spikes in inventory, but none as large as Manhattan.Moving help website HireaHelper.com released results of a recent study on 2020 moving trends.Their study also found high-rent cities like San Francisco and New York saw more people leaving than moving in; both cities had 80 percent more people moving out of the area than moving in. New York as a state had 64 percent more people leaving than moving in.Click here to see where people are moving to according to the study. 1415
