CAMPO, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man was arrested after reportedly assaulting two Border Patrol agents as they attempted to arrest him for trying to smuggle people into the U.S. According to the agency, the incident happened around 1:17 a.m. Tuesday as agents patrolled Interstate 8 in Campo. Agents tried to stop a 2007 Ford F-350 near Kitchen Creek Road when the driver took off, leading agents on a high-speed chase. RELATED: 14-year-old tried to smuggle meth strapped to body, CBP saysAccording to Border Patrol, agents successfully deployed a tire deflation device, forcing the vehicle to stop a short distance later, but the driver got out and fled on foot. As agents searched for man, he reportedly jumped out of a nearby bush, tackling one of the officers to the ground. A second agent also responded to the scene, struggling with the suspect as well. Inside the F-350, agents found three men and one woman, all Mexican nationals in the U.S. illegally. They were all taken to a Border Patrol station for processing and the suspect, identified as a 37-year-old U.S. citizen, was arrested. Conboy says the unburned area has been coated with his product - called the Mighty Fire Breaker.“We have to do more than what we're doing,” conboy says. “We can't just add more firefighters to these type of fires, because there's just too much fuel, and too many houses in wildland territories.”Conboy says the product is environmentally safe, and can be applied to vegetation and wood, he says it can defend a fire's advance for up to a month.His company sells a 50-gallon backpack for ,500, and can also fly a drone to spray hard to reach areas.He also now has the support of Jeff Bowman, who served as San Diego's fire chief during the 2003 Cedar Fire. Bowman’s now speaking out in support of the Mighty Firebreaker.Bowman says he's not being paid and he's not an investor. Instead, he says he believes the firebearker can help firefighters, still dealing with persistent staffing issues.“I just hope somebody sees this and says, 'Let's make the effort to at least try it in a trial burn and see how well it works,'” Bowman said.A spokesman for CalFire says the agency is not using the product, but that it was unclear what the future may hold. 1481

(KGTV) - Two teenagers were stopped in their tracks when they looked into a tree and found a creature looking back at them along a Carlsbad street.Two Fridays ago, around 10:30 a.m., a freshman college student did a double take while walking along Babilonia Street in the La Costa area. He called a friend, who drove right over. They made a quick recording."Omigod, look at him," one of the teens is heard whispering in the video.Perched in a tree, about 25 feet up, was a mountain lion, growling.The mother of one of the teens tells ABC 10News soon after they stopped recording, they looked up, and it was gone.Lauren DuBois of Project Wildlife at the San Diego Humane Society, says it's hard to tell the big cat whether the mountain lion was a juvenile or an adult. She says it's not surprising it was in a tree."Not unusual at all. They will climb trees, and rest in trees quite often," said DuBois.Dubois says it was likely relaxing after a long night."They can have up to 100 square miles of a territory. Most of time they are hunting from dusk to dawn, so a lot of the time, that’s where (tree) they will be resting," said DuBois.The concern? Less than half a mile away, is La Costa Meadows Elementary School, which began in-person learning in October.Neighbors tell us there have been sightings of a mountain lion in nearby Box Canyon for years. One of those neighbors did file a report of the most recent sighting with state Fish and Wildlife officials.DuBois say this big cat wasn't being aggressive. What about the growl?"Hey, I’m up here. Don’t want you to be there. I'm going to take off now," said Dubois.She says if you ever do spy a mountain lion in a tree, slowly back away and maintain eye contact."It's probably going to just leave. CARDIFF (KGTV) -- With just a little bit of planning, Sharon Belknap begins a free-hand sand mandala that will offer its message, briefly, to all who pass by on the bridge at Cardiff State Beach where the San Elijo lagoon meets the ocean.Watching her work is like watching a dance.The graphic designer and illustrator draws shapes using a small, inexpensive rake. She brings extras because often passersby find inspiration and ask to join her, a collaboration she welcomes.The connections she has made through her sand art, she says have added meaning to her creations.People also send her their photos of her artwork, asking to use them in their holiday cards.Each mandala has an inscription, such as: "You Are Loved," or "Only Love."One that resonated particularly was "Grateful for ____.""People were shouting their words from the bridge," says Belknap.Sometimes friends join her.Heather Nelson is a regular, and a longtime friend. The day we shot the story, Kari Prevost was joining for her first collaboration with Sharon."The sounds of the ocean, the beauty of the water," she says, "it's restorative. It rekindles a playfulness that's innate."Expressed on a canvas that will be washed away by the waves; the impermanence, Belknap says, is freeing and healing.Her son Chris Thompson, a 28 year-old Valley Center firefighter, died in an early morning crash on his motorcycle this 4th of July."I like to say he ascended," she says. The next morning, inexplicably, Sharon says she woke up feeling joy. She came to her spot in Cardiff before sunrise."The words just poured into me: 'Only Love.'The first person who walked over the bridge and saw her mandala tribute, took a picture of her, standing in the shadow of the bridge illuminated in the early sunlight.Belknap says Chris is in every drawing. She adds eyes, which are Chris's, to each one. "Being out here, creating these, I often ask Christopher, 'What do you see honey?' And he says, 'Mom, I see you.'"When this design is done, Sharon and her friends share a covid-conscious "butt hug," as she calls it, then take a moment to lift their hands to share it with Christopher, before sending its message out to all who are fortunate enough to see it before it's erased by the waves."You Are Loved," it says. 2274

CAPE LOOKOUT, N.C. (AP) — The National Park Service says scientists are trying to determine the cause of death of an endangered whale calf that was found stranded on a beach on North Carolina’s Outer Banks.The young whale is considered to be “one of the rarest marine mammals” on earth, according to NPS.Biologists performed a necropsy on the North Atlantic right whale calf and took DNA samples Saturday.NPS at Cape Lookout National Seashore posted news of the whale’s death on its Facebook page.Right whales are critically endangered. The park service says only about 360 of the animals are still alive and about five or six calves are born each year. 661
