HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies arrested a 71-year-old Hernando County Commissioner on Thursday for allegedly hiring a prostitute and letting his home be used as a house brothel.In February, deputies were called to the home of Hernando County Commissioner Nick Nicholson because his roommates, 30-year-old Valerie Surette and 32-year-old Kendel Surette were involved in a domestic dispute.While in the home deputies found drug paraphernalia. Nicholson was home at the time and claimed to be unaware of the drugs that he said belonged to his roommates.During the investigation Kendel Surette admitted to deputies that his wife, who is a former stripper, has sex with Nicholson on Tuesdays and Saturdays in exchange for rent and food.He also told deputies Nicholson pays Valerie Surette 0 a week for the sex and allows his wife to bring “customers” into the home for sex.Following a two-month-long investigation, deputies arrested Nicholson for one count of owning a home for the purpose of prostitution and two counts of engaging in prostitution. Heavy rain caused a central Texas river to rise to a near-record level in about a day, leading to a bridge collapse, flooded homes and evacuations.The Llano River rose to nearly 40 feet Tuesday in the city of Llano -- about 35 feet higher than it was just 24 hours earlier before -- thanks to 8 to 10 inches of rain that fell in the area over the past two days, the National Weather Service said.A few miles away, in Kingsland, the swollen river rushed against the top of the RM 2900 bridge for hours, eventually causing it to collapse, video from CNN affiliate KEYE showed. No one appeared to be on the bridge, and no injuries were immediately reported.Video from Darlene Walthall also showed the river washing over the span before the collapse.The Llano County Office of Emergency Management ordered people living within a quarter mile of the river to evacuate Tuesday morning.The Llano River meets the Colorado River in Kingsland. In San Diego County, drivers spun out on icy roads in higher elevations, including Sunrise Highway on Mount Laguna.On Interstate 15, dozens of cars piled up on the northbound lanes in the high desert city of Hesperia, Victor Valley News reported. Mobile phone video showed a man yelling for people to leave the road, followed by the sounds of crashing cars. "As soon as I hit the top of the hill, it was ice, black ice. I crashed and everyone else around me was crashing too," Brian Bolik told Victor Valley News. "A car behind us went over the embankment and rolled."
