SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Regis Philbin, the long-time talk show host who holds the Guiness Book world record for most hours on television, returned to his roots Wednesday with a visit to 10News."This was the beginning of it all," Philbin said upon beginning his tour. He had to do it himself!"The format of "The Regis Philbin Show" included an opening chat, interviews with celebrities, and interaction with the audience, all elements which would become hallmarks of his future network shows.Philbin lured many of the top celebrities to San Diego to make appearances, including Jerry Lewis, Ronald Reagan, Danny Thomas, and Liberace. This past weekend, they held an event offering , 14-inch pizzas to all customers. "It's trying times for everyone so we figured it was something fun and the least we could do to try and help everyone out, from families that are out of work, to industry employees, to our first responders," Yankle added. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Ricardo Silva, a Chula Vista native, has it in his blood to both serve his country and join the medical field.He had multiple family members join the military and as a San Diego local, he grew up around the Navy, so he became a sailor about ten years ago. Growing up with a mother who was a nurse, it makes sense that he and his sister followed her lead. His sister now works for the Public Health Department and he’s working at Naval Hospital Bremerton in Washington with the preventative medicine team as a contact tracer for COVID-19 patients.He and his team have worked days as long as 18 hours since the start of the pandemic, figuring out where patients contracted the virus.“It’s very very detailed, trying to figure out where they got it and how to try to prevent that from happening for the next person,” he said.Naval Hospital Bremerton has screened more than 35,000 patients as of July 30.“As I do this work, as tough as it is, when this is all over I just want to be able to say I did my part to help get through this,” he said. 1067

  

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego leaders declared a local emergency and public health emergency for seven days over the novel coronavirus, giving officials access to resources to address the virus.CDC and county health officials cautioned that the declarations did not mean residents faced an increased risk of the virus.Under the declarations, the county will be able to seek mutual aid, potentially be reimbursed for their response, and ensure resources to first responders and hospitals, stock pile medical supplies and gain access to hospital beds, and state and federal emergency funds if necessary.RELATED:Person back in ICE custody after being evaluated for coronavirus at Sharp Chula Vista2 coronavirus patients remain hospitalized, 1 person under observationMislabeled sample led to release of San Diego coronavirus patientMiramar coronavirus evacuees start petition for quarantine oversight"This action does not signify an increase in the risk to the residents in San Diego County to coronavirus," Supervisor Nathan Fletcher told the media. "This is an action taken that is meant to reassure the public that health authorities are proactively working to stay ahead of any challenges that may arise."So far, San Diego has two confirmed cases of coronavirus. Those patients are under isolation at UC San Diego Medical Center.According to Eric McDonald, medical director of the County’s Epidemiology and Immunization Branch, San Diego cases include:Seven people are under investigation. Five of them have tested negative and two have tested positive;Four non-San Diego residents who traveled to the region (but not Wuhan, China) monitored: Two tested negative and two have results still pending;Monitored 171 people returning from China with no symptoms: 48 have been cleared after self quarantine, 123 people are still being monitored. None are under investigation;Thirteen San Diegans were on flights next to people confirmed for coronavirus. Eight people have been cleared after two weeks, four people are still self-quarantined, and one person was a person under investigation who has since tested negative.MCAS Miramar has hosted two flights of passengers being evacuated from the coronavirus zone in Wuhan, China. Those passengers have been staying at the base under a 14-day quarantine. Once that quarantine ends next week, low to medium risk individuals will be asked to self-quarantine at home. 2945

  

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police investigated in Little Italy Saturday the suspicious death of a woman who appeared to be homeless.Officers received a 911 call at 3:42 a.m. reporting a body found at West Hawthorn and State streets, just west of Interstate 5.The woman appeared to have traumatic injuries but investigators could not immediately determine the source of them.The victim, who has not been identified, was in her 40's or 50's.Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. 586
