LAS VEGAS — Erin is a hairdresser based out of Henderson, Nevada. She exercises and eats well, but couldn’t figure out why she felt so fatigued.“I started becoming really fatigued and sleeping longer and then it switched and I started having sleepless nights. I couldn’t rest and relax and my body couldn’t relax and my head would just stay awake,” Erin added.She says she experienced muscle spasms and eventually loss of appetite. The symptoms went on for two weeks before she went to a doctor. The doctor confirmed that Erin is Vitamin D deficient.“The stress was causing my body to not take in the nutrients properly, so I also had to be put on medication to handle the stress,” Erin said.Dr. Romy Block, an endocrinologist and co-author of The Vitamin Solution, says Erin is not alone.“Most of us are probably Vitamin D deficient which makes it really tricky to figure out if you have it and what kind of symptoms are attributable to it,” Dr. Block said.Dr. Block says symptoms can include hair loss, memory and mood changes, fatigue, and bone pain.Even for mild cases, lacking Vitamin D can weaken your immune system. LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A car burst into flames after a crash in La Mesa early Sunday morning. According to California Highway Patrol, the crash happened on SR-94 near the 125 before 3:30 a.m. CHP says the driver was speeding on SR-94 west when he tried merging onto the 125 on-ramp. The man then lost control and flipped several times before the car went up in flames. Witnesses stopped to help, but the man was able to get out of the vehicle on his own. The driver was able to escape the crash with only minor injuries. CHP says he is being checked for DUI. Traffic was shut down on the 125 on-ramp for a short time after the crash, but was reopened before 6 a.m. 676

LAKELAND, Fla. -- A Florida bus attendant has been arrested for child abuse, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Deputies say Brenda Nelson, 65, of Polk City has been charged with one count of child abuse for reportedly striking a special needs child on a school bus. On Wednesday, November 8 at about 4:23 p.m. the Transportation Safety Specialist told deputies a citizen complaint was received from a witness who reported she saw a bus attendant strike a female student on the head. The witness was not riding the bus. The witness advised officials that the incident took place on Wednesday, November 8 at approximately 3:58 p.m. The bus transports special needs children from the Doris Sanders Learning Center in Lakeland to their homes throughout Polk County, according to the Sheriff's Office. Deputies reviewed video footage that shows Nelson attempting to help a special needs child off of the bus. In the video, deputies say the victim was strapped to her seat by a "Houdini Harness" which is designed to significantly restrict her movement and mobility. At about 3:58 p.m., Brenda Nelson is seen on video walking by the victim and hitting her on the top of her head with an open left hand and saying "I'm gonna slap that tongue out of your mouth when I get up there."Two minutes later, the video shows Nelson walk behind the victim's seat, grab the victim by her hair and violently shake the victim's head back and forth and to the side, approximately four times. Deputies say after shaking the victim's head, Nelson was seen pulling something behind the victim's seat in an effort to tighten her harness. The victim attempted to reach behind her seat in the direction of Nelson and Nelson slapped the victim on the hand twice, according to the affidavit. According to the arrest affidavit, Nelson told the bus driver, Bradley Mckean, to take the victim home first, changing the regular bus route. Nelson was seen sitting next to the victim for the remainder of the bus ride and it appeared as if she was attempting to push the victim down into the seat to further limit her mobility. Deputies interviewed Nelson the following day. Nelson told deputies she did not remember hitting the victim on the head. She told deputies she was trying to get another child off the school bus and the victim kept on beating on the window and trying to get up out of her seat. Deputies did not observe the victim beating on the window of the school bus or acting in a disruptive manner as described by Nelson. Brenda stated, "I guess I done it. I didn't remember hitting her." Brenda also stated, "I must have just lost it. I don't remember doing that. I would never hit one of those kids."Brenda Nelson was arrested and transported to Polk County Jail.Due to the Veterans Day holiday, the Sheriff's Office does not have access to the video mentioned in the affidavit. The Polk County School Board released the following statement:  3005

LINCOLN PARK (KGTV) - For the first time, a member of the drill team at Lincoln High School recalls the moments she was called the N-word at Friday night's football game in San Clemente. Lillian Mixon is a sophomore at Lincoln High School and she tells 10News, "A group of us were walking to the bathroom during halftime and a little boy asked me if I do flag or twirl, and I told him no, I dance, I do drill, and he responded with the N-word." Mixon says it happened again on her way back from the restroom, "I was confused and I was like did she say the N-word to me because this is a grown woman." Immediately, Mixon says, she told two security guards at the game about what happened, "I told the security guard that they were saying racial things to us and the guy looked at me and didn’t respond he just looked and turned away." Meanwhile, Orange County Sheriffs Department released a statement on social media that reads in part, "At the game an individual told deputies that the San Clemente Middle School students were on the visitor side being rowdy and obnoxious and deputies removed them from the area." They went on to say there was no mention of inappropriate language or hate speech. After the game, following normal protocal, Lincoln High athletes and coaches were escorted back to their buses. Mixon says when she got back to the bus she felt awful, "I felt awful after the game and I had to keep it together. After the game I told myself things like this happen but they never happen to me." Lawmakers around the country are considering passing legislation that would allow teachers to carry guns in the classroom.Those for and against have voiced their opinions. But now, three teachers in Michigan are putting the concept to the test.Three teachers — one who’s never shot a gun before and two concealed pistol license (CPL) holders — agreed to be put through an active shooter drill.“I’m a little nervous,” said Bob Fite. “I usually shoot at paper plates and at the gun range.”Fite has been a high school social studies teacher for 35 years. He is also a CPL holder.This active shooter training drill is what police use. Think of it as a big screen video game, except this scenario is all too real.Fite had his finger on the trigger the whole time, which is dangerous. But he still hesitated to shoot and when he did, he missed the mark.“There are lockers in the background. If that’s kids in the background, we got a problem,” he said.“It’s a very touchy subject, and I don’t know where I stand. I really don’t,” said Chad Keisel is a high school biology teacher of 24 years.He’s never shot a gun before. In the first training scenario, Chad was shot without even hitting the gunman.“I thought it was only one guy, how easy is that? But if there’s kids running around in the background, I would not shoot,” he said.Katherine Montie has only been a high school math teacher for a few months. She’s a CPL holder and during the practice round, it was clear she was a great shot.In the first scenario, she kept calm and killed the suspect.But in the second scenario, she didn’t realize there was more than one suspect that shot back at her. She was “killed” before she could hit one of the shooter.“If I knew those students, that would have been a completely different situation, for sure,” she said.Allen Park Police Sgt. Wayne Albright facilitated thie drill. He teaches students and school staff on the ALICE method, which doesn’t involve guns.ALICE stands for alert, lockdown, inform, counter and evacuate. Students and staff are trained to use a lockdown method while hiding under desks or furniture during a shooting or being proactive and doing whatever it takes to keep the shooter out of the room, or if unable to do so, using counter measure and evacuating.For more information on Alice, click hereSgt. Albright says teachers may not be able to handle emotional stress that comes with this type of training.“You learn to distance yourself and separate your feelings from the actual scene. I don’t think teachers have been trained to do that,” he explained. “They don’t have to. They have a connection with those kids because that’s what they’re supposed to do.”After the drill, the teachers expressed concern.“I was shaking. I can feel it in my knees. I can feel it in my elbows,” Keisel explained. “It kind of froze me for a second and that was somebody I didn’t even know. And it wasn’t even real.”If armed, the teachers say they’re not comfortable leaving their students in a classroom, while risking their own lives to hunt down a shooter.“I would like to say I would be the hero, but I don’t know if I would be,” Keisel added.“I would be locked down in my room making sure that nobody came through that door,” Fite said.Being smaller in stature, Montie says if she were armed in the classroom, her mind would constantly be on her gun.“What if one of my students tries to take that gun from me? Then you aren’t even thinking about an active shooter, you’re just thinking about every other day of the year,” she said.One thing all three teachers agree, the training has to be extensive. ut they question where the funding would come from.“I think it’s not as easy as hand teachers a gun, they are already there anyway they can just neutralize any threats because they all have guns and training,” Keisel said. “Come and try this and then answer the question, if it’s a wise thing?" Fite said.A bill has been introduced into the Michigan state House that would allow teachers to carry a gun at school. The teachers we spoke with say even if the bill passes, they hope lawmakers will focus on additional security measures, not just arming teachers. 4269
