Within days the Webbs were on a private plane flying to Burbank. "We get him off the plane; there's Jay. My dad looks at my wife and goes that's Jay Leno," said Colby. All of it arranged in secret. Leno had a prototype Corvette ready to go. "Jay's not gonna call you out and let you just sit in the car," said Colby. Together, they took it for a spin, then stopped by Jay's garage for a tour of his massive car collection. "Jay Leno is one of the nicest people and his crew. Everybody was just the nicest people ever; they took care of everything," said Colby. A photo on the plane ride back showed Larry once again flashing his enduring smile. According to a report, the teens were out of their cells cleaning when their supervisor left the group to break up a fight somewhere else in the facility. The four then got onto an elevator that was left open and convinced a staff member to send the elevator to the basement, which is an unsecured area. Once in the basement, they were able to leave the facility.Since their escape, three workers were fired and one was suspended for their roles in the incident.Officers continue to search for Caruthers and Marsh. Off Their Plate currently operates in nine cities across the U.S. from New York City to San Francisco. “We purchase meals at a meal from our restaurant partners,” Tiwari said. “Half of the cost of each meal goes directly to wages.” That, in turn, allows restaurants, like Emilie’s, to hire back furloughed workers. “We normally have 67,” said Tien. “And then when this first happened, we dropped down to around 15, but now we're back up to 26.” The orders coming in through Off Their Plate also allowed Emilie’s to keep providing health insurance to all its workers, even those they still haven’t been able to hire back. It’s all possible because of donations from corporations and individuals, who’ve given more than million to the cause and restored more than four thousand restaurant worker shifts. “I’m excited about giving people some source of income through this pandemic,” said Tiwari. Yet, Off Their Plate, believes that, ideally, their nonprofit won’t be around forever. “The hope is that the restaurant industry and the health care workers industry really get back to normal, where we're not needed,” Tiwari said.
