SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On this holiday, some extra thanks for a Clairemont family, months after an expectant mother was placed on a ventilator from COVID-19."This Thanksgiving, I’m thankful to be here with my family," said Ashley Duque.That family includes Ashley, her husband Diego, their daughter Anna, 3, and the newest addition, three-month-old Lucas."He came out our miracle baby," said Ashley.The miracle emerged from a pandemic. In March, 17 weeks into her pregnancy, Ashley was hospitalized with coronavirus, before being placed on a ventilator for five days."It was very, very scary," said Ashley.She spoke to ABC 10News from her hospital bed while recovering. Ashley was discharged after more than two weeks, but she would be back for nine different surgeries from complications from the COVID-19 treatment.Most of the surgeries involved removing scar tissue in her throat caused by her time on the ventilator.Then in August, Ashley was back in the hospital, as she went into labor three weeks early."I was nervous and scared," said Ashley.Despite her COVID battle and her other health issues, Lucas Duque was born August 25, weighing 6 pounds, 6 ounces. He was healthy."We’re just very blessed that nothing happened to him," said Ashley.On this Thanksgiving holiday, there is a mix of emotions. Ashley is still having issues with the scar tissue, but Ashley and Diego are feeling an overwhelming feeling of gratitude."In a flip of coin, anything can happen. Just very grateful to have my family with me. They are my world," said Diego."Learned to cherish every moment. Definitely our most grateful Thanksgiving ever," said Ashley. 1645

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One man is dead and another person was injured after two separate shootings just miles apart early Saturday.The first shooting occurred in the Lincoln Park area before 3:30 a.m. near Euclid and Imperial avenues. A suspect wearing dark clothing reportedly shot at a group of transients, according to San Diego Police.One person was hit by debris from the gunshot and taken to the hospital as a precaution.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodA second shooting occurred about two miles away, an officer patrolling Mountain View heard gunshots around the same time. He arrived to find a man lying on the ground on South 45th Street, near Willy Henderson Sports Complex.The Hispanic man in his 20s to 30s was shot multiple times and died at the scene, police said. His identity has not been released.Police are searching for a white Volkswagon seen in the area by witnesses following the shooting. Police said there is no indication the shooting is gang-related.Police received calls about both shootings around the same time but said there is nothing to suggest the two are connected. 1153

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police arrested a man Wednesday suspected of robbing a US Bank in North park before causing a major backup on I-5 in the South Bay. According to the FBI, Gustavo Torres, 32, was charged Thursday with one count of robbery. Torres is accused of robbing the US Bank on the 3200 block of University Avenue in North Park on August 7. Shortly after the robbery, San Diego Police were able to track down a suspect matching the bank robber’s description on Interstate 5 near Main Street in Chula Vista. Authorities shut down all lanes of southbound I-5 during the arrest, forcing traffic to a halt. According to the FBI, Torres is due in court for an arraignment on August 9. 696

  

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More than 200 people in San Diego County are currently being monitored over novel coronavirus concerns, county health officials said Friday.The 204 people under county supervision include those deemed at risk of having been exposed to the virus due to close contact with confirmed cases or because of travel to China in the past 14 days, the county said.Those individuals are monitoring their health under the supervision of county health officials.RELATED: San Diego Board of Supervisors extends coronavirus emergenciesSo far, 338 people in all have been monitored by the county, with 134 people completing their time under supervision.Health officials say the CDC is conducting screening for those landing at one of 11 U.S. airports from China. From there, if a patient shows no symptoms they are self-quarantined at home for self-monitoring with public health supervision. San Diego has had two confirmed cases of coronavirus, or COVID-19. One patient has since recovered from the virus and been released. The second patient was still receiving care.
