CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Engineers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) say they have developed a new pill that can orally deliver insulin and other drugs that usually have to be injected. Many drugs can’t currently be taken orally because they are broken down in the gastrointestinal tract before they can take effect. One example is insulin, which diabetes patients have to inject daily or more frequently. The 433

Atlanta’s mayor says two police officers have been fired and three placed on desk duty pending review over excessive use of force during a protest incident Saturday night.Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said at a news conference Sunday that she and police Chief Erika Shields made the decision after reviewing body-camera footage. Shields called it “really shocking to watch.”Officials say the incident came to light via video that circulated online. It shows a group of police officers in riot gear and gas masks surround a car being driven by a man with a woman in the passenger seat. The officers pull the woman out and appear to use a stun gun on the man. They use zip-tie handcuffs on the woman on the ground. The couple did not appear to be fighting police on the video.Bottoms said charges have been dropped against the woman, and the man has been released.Local reporters, who captured footage of the incident, said the police had earlier broken the glass on the car. A reporter said police also flattened the tires. The city is under curfew again Sunday night.I watched this unfold last night. He is scheduled to appear in court September 6.According to the statement, authorities received a tip that Wagshol was trying to buy large capacity rifle magazines from out of state. As the FBI and the Norwalk Police Department were investigating the tip, they discovered Wagshol was trying to build his own rifle and had allegedly posted on Facebook about his interest in committing a mass shooting, the statement said. Authorities did not provide details on what the post said.Authorities executed a search warrant at his home and found multiple weapons, including a handgun, a rifle, a rifle scope with a laser, numerous rounds of ammunition, body armor, a ballistic helmet and other tactical gear, police said. Some of the weapons were registered to Wagshol's father, but he had access to them, authorities said.CNN has reached out to the prosecutor and defense attorney. He allegedly told his ex 'A good 100 kills would be nice'Tristan Scott Wix of Daytona Beach, Florida, was arrested in a Winn-Dixie parking lot on Friday after he sent his ex-girlfriend a series of disturbing texts in which 1795

As voters in seven states go to the polls on Tuesday, ex-Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders will hold campaign rallies in Cleveland as cases of the COVID-19 spread nationwide. On Monday, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced that three cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the Cleveland area. DeWine, who is a Republican governor who endorsed President Donald Trump in 2016, said he would not attend, but said he did not want to interfere in political rallies. The city's mayor, Frank Jackson, also said that he has no plans of banning large events. But DeWine has recently taken a stand against large events in Ohio. Last week, the governor ordered fans not to attend the Arnold Classic fitness competition, which draws thousands of bodybuilding and athletics fans to Columbus. This came despite the objections of Arnold Schwarzenegger and his staff. As results roll in from Tuesday's "Super Tuesday II" primaries, both Biden and Sanders are expected to speak before supporters just miles apart.Infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci was asked whether campaign rallies should press on amid the spread of COVID-19. Health experts said the public, especially those at a greater risk of encountering complications from coronavirus exposure, should practice in social distancing for the foreseeable future. "If you are talking about a campaign rally at a place where there is no community spread, I think the judgement to have it might be a good judgment," Fauci said. "If you want to talk about large gatherings that a place where you have community spread, I think that is a judgment call and if someone decides they want to cancel it, I would not publicly criticize them." 1704

Barneys, an icon of America's luxury clothing world for decades, has filed for bankruptcy. The New York-based retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection early Tuesday morning. It said in a statement that it had also secured million from affiliates of Hilco Global and the Gordon Brothers Group to help meet its financial commitments."Like many in our industry, Barneys New York's financial position has been dramatically impacted by the challenging retail environment and rent structures that are excessively high relative to market demand," Barneys CEO Daniella Vitale said in a statement. The bankruptcy filing will allow the company "to conduct a sale process, review our current leases and optimize our operations," she added. The company said it will continue to operate five flagship locations in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Boston, as well as Barneys.com and BarneysWarehouse.com. However, it said it is shutting down stores in Chicago, Las Vegas and Seattle. The company is also shutting down five "concept stores" and seven of its nine Barneys Warehouse stores. The move was not unexpected. Reuters reported last month that filing for bankruptcy protection could help alleviate the pressure of expensive leases. The company traces its history to 1923, 1293
