A family in Tennessee was able to escape their burning house thanks to their neighbor's rescue dog.The home in the Franklin, Tennessee neighborhood of Twin Oaks was seriously damaged in a fire caused by fireworks, officials say.Neighbor Jess LeCates said his 3-year-old Belgian malinois Roux was barking frantically at his front door around 10:20 p.m., about an hour after the homeowner threw fireworks near a trashcan outside, sparking the fire.Roux noticed the fire and led LeCates to the home where the roof and garage were already on fire. LeCates said he started banging on his neighbor's door to wake up the family of three and get them out of the house."I tried to put out the fire while the lady who lived there called 911," LeCates said.Thanks to Roux, everyone inside the home, including their pets, were able to escape unharmed.The Fire Marshal said the fire burned through some exterior features and much of the attic, causing an estimated ,000 in damage.Consumer fireworks are prohibited in Franklin.WTVF first reported this story. 1055

A Catholic priest in Pennsylvania has been charged with indecent assault and corruption of a minor involving a 17-year-old girl, Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin said Tuesday.Father Kevin Lonergan, who served at the Cathedral of St. Catharine of Siena in Allentown, started sending sexual messages to the victim via Snapchat after meeting her at St. Francis of Assisi in Allentown, Martin said in a press conference.Martin said Lonergan also hugged the girl while he was aroused and grabbed her buttocks, pulling her closer when she tried to pull away.The victim told an adult at Central High School who contacted the diocese, Martin said. A growing number of Hispanics along the Texas-Mexico border with birth records showing they were born in the United States are being denied American passports, held in immigration detention centers, and entered into deportation proceedings, immigration attorneys and individuals affected told the Washington Post.According to the Post report, the issue stems from a government allegation that from the 1950s through the 1990s, midwives and physicians working along the border issued American birth certificates to babies born in Mexico, which some birth attendants have admitted to in court.The State Department, the Post said, denies changing its "policy or practice regarding the adjudication of passport applications."
