(KGTV) -- The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department identified the scuba diver found dead nine miles off the coast of Long Beach on the ocean floor as Henry Cook, 55, of La Jolla.Cook was scuba diving near an oil platform Saturday afternoon with another diver when something went wrong.Deputies got a "diver in distress" call 12:30 p.m. Saturday near oil platform Elly.A Los Angeles Sheriff’s helicopter responded and hoisted a scuba diver out of a Lifeguard boat, then flew the diver to Catalina Island and was treated in a hyperbaric chamber.Sunday, searchers returned to the area with a remote-controlled underwater robot and located Cook’s body on the ocean floor 200-feet down.Los Angeles County is conducting an autopsy to determine how Cook died. 780

LOCKPORT, N.Y.  — A woman went into labor while watching the original version of the horror movie "The Purge" at the Transit Drive-In Theater in Lockport, New York. The woman's car would not start because the battery had gone dead, making things even more stressful."It was code red," said owner Rick Cohen with a laugh, who admits that he was worried the baby was going to be born on the spot. In addition, the movie was still playing, making a rescue in the dark more challenging.The Transit Drive-in was built in 1952 and has been operated by Cohen's family since 1957. During the rescue, Cohen was thinking "hot towels, hot water and hopefully not too big of a mess." The drive-in owner has has no children or experience in the delivery room.Cohen was able to use a portable battery pack and flashlight to start the car and escort the woman and her very nervous husband safely to the exit.Social media has also taken a liking to this story with numerous people posting "Congratulations" and "Close call! Could have been the first baby born at the Transit Drive-In.""I guess the baby was in a hurry to come see a movie," said Cohen with a chuckle, who is hoping to meet the parents again.  "I wish them the best but would really like to know how they made out."In the rush to get the couple out of the drive-in and on the way to the hospital, Cohen said he never thought to find out who the parents were and what hospital they were going to.While he has encountered many things in his years as a drive-in movie operator, Cohen said he has never had a situation where a woman began to give birth — especially during a horror movie. 1701

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Voters who hate resetting their clocks twice a year took the first step Tuesday to making daylight saving time year-round in California.With nearly 4.5 million ballots counted, Proposition 7 led by more than 62 percent. The measure permits the state Legislature to establish permanent daylight saving time. However, a change in federal law would be required before the initiative can take effect.The time-change issue was fresh on voters' minds when they went to the polls. California and most of the rest of the nation reset clocks last Sunday, falling back on standard time and seeing the day get dark one hour earlier.Democratic Rep. Kansen Chu of San Jose said last month that he sponsored Proposition 7 after his dentist called him to complain about springing forward when clocks are moved up an hour every March. That switch takes away an hour's sleep in the middle of the night as it shifts an hour of sunlight from the morning to the evening.Chu said he investigated the issue further and learned the original reason for implementing daylight saving — to save energy during World War I— no longer seemed to apply to the modern world.Chu said he also came across studies showing an increased risk of car accidents and heart attacks following the spring change when people lose an hour of sleep."It's a public safety measure," Chu said. LOS ANGELES (AP) — A judge in California has ordered immediate testing of all detainees and staff at an immigration detention center where COVID-19 was spreading for weeks while officials refused to test for the virus. The Los Angeles Times reports federal District Court Judge Vince Chhabria ordered the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency to conduct quick-result testing of everyone in the Mesa Verde ICE Processing Facility in Bakersfield. Chhabria’s order followed results Friday showing nearly half of the detainees tested earlier in the week were positive. LOS ANGELES (AP) — An autopsy report says a Black man shot and killed by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies was wounded 16 times in the front and back. But the report doesn’t shed any light on whether he was on the ground when he was shot. The county coroner's report supplied to The Associated Press on Friday says Dijon Kizzee had four “rapidly life-threatening wounds." The 29-year-old died Aug. 31 in South Los Angeles after deputies tried to stop him for riding a bicycle in the wrong direction. Deputies said they shot Kizzee when he picked up a dropped handgun.
