A member of the Proud Boys, a far-right group, is under arrest and facing nearly a dozen charges in Portland. The charges allege Alan Swinney pointed a revolver at counterprotesters and fired a paintball gun and mace at them on two separate occasions in August.Swinney, who is scheduled for a court appearance Thursday, was charged in a secret indictment Sept. 11 but not arrested until Wednesday.“In summary, the indictment alleges that Swinney used a paintball gun on August 15, 2020 to cause physical injury to another person,” the statement from the Multnomah County District Attorney’s office said.“Further, the indictment alleges that Swinney used a paintball gun on August 22, 2020 to once again cause physical injury to another person; that he also carried and then pointed a revolver at someone which placed that person in fear of imminent serious physical injury and that he unlawfully discharged mace or a similar substance toward another person.”Swinney remained in custody Wednesday and it wasn’t immediately clear if he had retained an attorney or would be assigned a public defender. 1106

A pair of durable boots is a must-have in anyone's winter wardrobe -- and a team of archaeologists has found a timeless pair in a very unlikely place. The skeleton of a man, dating back around 500 years, has been discovered face down in the mud under London's River Thames, with his thigh-high leather footwear remaining virtually intact. The find was made in Bermondsey, south London, by archaeologist working on London's new "super sewer," a £4.2 billion (.4 billion) tunnel that will capture, store and transfer raw sewage and rainwater that currently overflows into the river. The mystery of the man's sturdy (and sought after) footwear has prompted the team to investigate further.Leather was an expensive commodity in Tudor times, and it is unlikely someone would be buried wearing such a highly prized item, according to MOLA Headland, the firm leading the project -- meaning the man's demise was likely premature. But the company notes that the banks of the Thames were a hazardous place in the late 15th and early 16th century, to which the skeleton has been dated. He may have been "a fisherman, a mudlark or perhaps a sailor," the archaeologists speculated."By studying the boots we've been able to gain a fascinating glimpse into the daily life of a man who lived as many as 500 years ago," said Beth Richardson, Finds Specialist at MOLA Headland."They have helped us to better understand how he may have made his living in hazardous and difficult conditions, but also how he may have died. It has been a privilege to be able to study something so rare and so personal," Richardson added. The boots were built with extra soles and stuffed with moss or a similar material to help them last in tough terrain, according to the firm's conservation experts.Investigation of the man's bones has also provided further clues to the mystery. He was likely to have died under the age of 35 and had deep groves in his teeth most likely caused "by a repetitive action, like passing rope between his teeth as a fisherman might," according to the company. 2057

A man who held up a "Trump 2020" sign while riding Splash Mountain at Disney World says he has been banned from the park for life.Dion Cini of New York City donned a "Make America Great Again" visor and strategically held up a "Trump 2020" banner so it would show up in the on-ride photos that are available for purchase near the exit of Splash Mountain.NBC News reports that Cini was later told that he has been permanently prevented from visiting its parks.Disney told NBC that it wasn't the content of Cini's sign that resulted in the ban but the fact that he held up a sign "to incite a crowd."Disney World's park rules state that "unauthorized events, demonstrations or speeches, or the usage of any flag, banner or sign for commercial purposes, or to incite a crowd" as among its prohibited activities.Cini posted a picture of his ride photo, along with what appears to be a ticket documenting his ban from the parks on FacebookAlex Hider is a writer for the E.W. A Tucson, Arizona 6-year-old invited 32 of his classmates to a pizza party for his birthday over the weekend... and no one showed up.Teddy's party was held at a Peter Piper Pizza restaurant in Tucson on Sunday afternoon.Sil Mazzini, Teddy's mom, said that 32 invitations were sent out, inviting the kindergartner's classmates and their parents to join him for celebrations at the restaurant. But no one came."I'm done with parties for a while," Mazzini joked following the sad weekend showing. The family plans to celebrate Teddy's birthday Monday night by reading well wishes shared with the family after Mazzini's photos from the party were posted by a Tucson reporter and picked up by other Arizona outlets.Social media was flooded with messages of support, and the Phoenix Suns have invited Teddy to watch Wednesday's game against the Lakers.  889
