BOSTON (KGTV) - Two parents linked to San Diego in the college admissions scandal, Elisabeth Kimmel and Robert Flaxman, were among the 15 elite suspects who appeared in a Boston courtroom Friday as a federal judge discussed the case. Kimmel, a former media executive, is charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud, according to ABC News. Prosecutors did not seek detention and reimposed her prior bond of 0,000. Judge M. Page Kelley ordered Kimmel not to have contact with witnesses aside from relatives, however Kimmel was ordered not to discuss the case with them. Kimmel’s son was a track recruit for pole vaulting at USC, which led to a 0,000 payment, prosecutors said. He was admitted to the university in fall 2018. The admissions essay referred to the younger Flaxman’s volunteer work as the manager of a fictitious elite youth athletic team, ABC reported. Flaxman was emailed an invoice for 0,000 when his son was admitted, according to ABC News. Flaxman’s daughter, who was accepted to USD but did not attend, had a proctor who was paid ,000 to boost her ACT scores, prosecutors said. BALTIMORE, Md. — Baltimore Police are investigating the shooting of a 5-year-old girl on the 1000 block of McKean Street in West Baltimore on Monday evening.According to an official with the mayor's office, the 5-year-old girl is the younger sister of 7-year-old Taylor Hayes who was shot in the backseat of a car in July and was pronounced dead two weeks later.Officers were called to an area hospital for a report of the 5-year-old walk-in shooting victim who was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to her groin.Investigators say that residents in the area of the 1000 block of McKean Street heard several gunshots when someone looked outside and saw the girl laying on the sidewalk suffering from her gunshot wound.A person then picked up the girl from the sidewalk and drove her to an area hospital.The young girl was immediately rushed into surgery and is expected to survive.Officials believe that the girl was caught in the middle of a shootout involving suspects in an unknown car and suspects on foot. 1077

(KGTV) - Authorities are investigating reports of a down airplane in Borrego Springs Thursday.San Diego Sheriff's Department deputies received reports of the downed ultralight plane around 10:30 a.m. on airfield property. BONITA, Calif. (KGTV) - Hundreds of animals evacuated due to the Valley Fire are staying at county shelters.The San Diego County Department of Animal Services and the San Diego Humane Society are working together to rescue animals and care for them until they can be reunited with their owners.Nearly 300 pets and livestock are currently staying at the San Diego County of Department of Animal Services shelter in Bonita and the Iron Oak Canyon Ranch on Campo Road in Spring Valley.All horses should be brought to the Lakeside Rodeo Arena.Alma Pereda brought her dogs to the shelter in Bonita after the hotel she was evacuated to did not accept pets."Pretty hectic trying to get what we can, rescue first your family and then your pets," Pereda.Kelly Campbell is the director of the county's Department of Animal Services."We're working to try to support folks do have teams out in the field who are scouting in areas that may have been inaccessible for evacuations, welfare checks on animals, "said Campbell.They're also trying to balance the needs of pet owners with the requirements of the pandemic."They love their animals, want to come and see them, but need to make sure not in closed quarters due to COVID," said Campbell.Household pets are still being accepted at the shelter in Bonita, but it's at capacity for large animals.
