(KGTV) – A man who reportedly tried to hit his girlfriend with a pickaxe was taken into custody after a standoff at a La Jolla Shores home.At around 10:40 a.m. Thursday, San Diego police officers were called to a house in the 2500 block of Ellentown Road after receiving reports of a domestic violence incident.10News learned a man inside reportedly threatened his girlfriend with a pickaxe, prompting her to leave. The unidentified man remained inside and refused police orders to come out."When we first got here, he was not communicating with us, he was just inside the house, yelling and screaming and banging against the wall," said SDPD Captain Tina Williams.While officers tried to persuade him to surrender, sections of Ellentown Road were shut down due to the police activity.At times the man appeared in the windows of the home holding the ax and knives, according to Williams. He also started a debris fire on top of his stove, sending smoke billowing from the house. Shortly after 1 p.m., the man went to the backyard, where police took him into custody without incident, according to Williams.The man was booked on suspicion of attempted assault with a deadly weapon and felony domestic violence battery.The victim was not seriously injured.Williams said the incident was not the first time police had been called to the house. "Earlier this week, we did respond out here... he was out in the middle of the street causing an altercation," she said. (KGTV) - The Granite Lion Cellars in Jamul will break ground Wednesday on a new tasting room and wine cave, adding to their expanding vineyard and winery in the East County."We've been waiting for this for quite a while," says Tasting Room Manager Miriam Valdez. "I"m over the moon that it's finally happening."The multi-million dollar expansion will help Granite Lion deal with the increase of customers they've seen over the past year. Sommelier David Whited says they've gone from about ten visitors each week to 150.It's an excellent problem to have, and one that is spreading up and down Highway 94. "You can do it here, 20 minutes from downtown."The new wine cave and tasting room are the latest sign that the region is gaining in popularity. The first tasting room in the area opened in 2014. Since then, wines along the 94 have won several awards and are starting to pull customers away from Temecula, Ramona and even Baja."As word gets out, people are coming here," says Whited."You arrive, and it's quiet," says Valdez. "It's away from the busy hustle and bustle of the city. You can enjoy nature. You can find a place here to rejuvenate and relax."The San Diego County Vinters Association says there are 116 wineries across the county. A recent report showed they have a million economic impact every year.Whited says the geography in the East County allows vineyards to grow more flavorful grapes commonly found in Europe."There are two mountain ranges that filter in the marine climate into the valley here which sets us apart from anywhere else in San Diego," he says.County Supervisor Diane Jacob is expected to attend Wednesday's event. JACKSONVILLE, Florida — A Florida gas station owner is “sick and tired” of people using the microwave to warm containers of urine. Parul Patel has placed a sign in his store asking customers to stop committing this act. He owns a BP gas station and On the Fly convenience store in Jacksonville, which are within walking distance of two labs. One lab said it does not collect drug test samples. He said that people walk in off the street, microwave their containers and then leave. Warming urine from a person who has not taken drugs is seen by some as a way to pass a drug test. A few months ago a woman became aggressive with Patel when he asked her to not warm urine. (KGTV) - A convicted child molester may become the latest sexually violent predator to be released to East San Diego County.The Department of State Hospitals proposed Tuesday to place Herman Smith, 71, at 42920 Desert Rose Ranch Road in Jacumba Hot Springs.Smith has convictions dating back to 1993 for rape by force, rape of a drugged victim, oral copulation with a minor under 14, and sodomy with a person under 14, according to the Megan’s Law website.Supervisor Dianne Jacob slammed state officials in response to the relocation, saying they "have no shame." 598

JULIAN (CNS) - A motorcyclist was killed in a crash near Julian on Saturday.California Highway Patrol officers headed to state Route 79 near Sunrise Highway about 1:50 p.m. for a report that a Toyota 4Runner had struck a motorcycle and pinned the rider underneath the vehicle, according to a CHP incident log.The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Cal Fire San Diego. No identifying information on the victim was available.One-way traffic control was in place while authorities investigated and worked to clean up the crash, according to the CHP. 579
