ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred during a traffic stop in Escondido early Friday morning.The incident happened at around 3:45 a.m. on Broadway, near Washington Avenue, according to Escondido police.Police said officers were initially called to a home in the 300 block of Park Avenue due to a reported restraining order violation. In the call, a woman said her former husband, 44-year-old Rosendo Sandoval Quezada was at her home and she identified his vehicle.On Broadway, an officer spotted a white car being driven by Quezada and pulled him over.According to police, Quezada "exited his vehicle holding a 3-foot long crow bar and ran toward the officer."Police confirmed the situation prompted the officer to fire multiple shots. Quezada was struck in the abdomen, and he was transported to Palomar Hospital for treatment of his injuries.Police said the officer, who was not injured in the incident, is a 4-year veteran of the department. A lieutenant at the scene told 10News he believes this was the first time the officer was involved in a shooting. ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) -- A popular Encinitas cafe was destroyed and nearby residences were evacuated following a blaze early Monday morning.Crews were called around 12:15 a.m. to a commercial building fire at 698 N Coast Highway 101, about three blocks from the coastline.Witnesses reported hearing an explosion then seeing the building fully engulfed almost instantly. "I heard a really loud pop and then I heard some yelling," said Matt Prior, a nearby resident. He thought the noise was gunfire until he realized the popular Mozy Cafe was engulfed in flames."I went outside and saw like a really big orange glow," said Prior.Flames were still raging an hour after the first units arrived. More firefighting units were called to the scene and crews evacuated nearby residential buildings.No injuries were reported.In total, Mozy Cafe and three other businesses resided in the destroyed commercial building. Firefighters remained on the scene as of 6 a.m. to monitor hot spots. The cause of the fire is under investigation but officials say it does not seem suspicious.The owners of the four businesses say they want to rebuild and have created a GoFundMe to raise money. 1185

Even as the COVID-19 pandemic rages on and the Trump administration continues to contest the results of the 2020 presidential election, the White House plans to hold its annual turkey pardoning ceremony next week, according to CNN and Fox News.President Donald Trump will reportedly take part in the annual tradition on Tuesday afternoon when he will issue a formal pardon to two Iowa turkeys - Corn and Cob.The public can vote for which turkey they'd like to see President Trump pardon and receive the title National Thanksgiving Turkey.According to The White House's Facebook page, Corn and Cob will stay at The Willard until the annual White House Turkey Pardon on Tuesday.In the past, the Turkey Pardoning Ceremony at the White House has drawn a crowd of spectators at the Rose Garden. It's unclear if the 2020 ceremony will be held in front of spectators.Trump has largely laid low since Election Day. He's held just three on-camera events since Nov. 3, one of which was a Veteran's Day ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, at which he did not address reporters. According to CNN, outside of playing a few rounds of golf on the weekends, Trump has not left the White House in several weeks.Following Tuesday's ceremony, the turkeys will live out their lives at Iowa State University. ESCONDIDO (CNS) - Escondido police today arrested a man after he allegedly jumped on top of a patrol car and began striking it with a rock.Related: Rincon Middle School closed after social media threatAt about 9:45 a.m., a patrol sergeant pulled up to the intersection of Washington Avenue and Quince Street when he witnessed a man run up to his patrol SUV, jump onto the back and begin smacking a rock onto the vehicle's roof, Escondido Police Sgt. Eric Olson said.The man also tore off the vehicle's rear windshield wiper before attempting to flee east on Washington Avenue, Olson said.
