SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Residents in a senior mobile home park in Oceanside are worried about speeding drivers after two ducks were hit and killed Wednesday. Neighbors told 10News a mom, dad and baby duck were crossing the road around 5 a.m. when a newspaper delivery driver ran them over.Several residents reported that the driver responsible delivers the San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper and regularly speeds on their narrow roads.The UT told 10News their carriers are employed by a separate company but issued the following statement: "We have learned that a carrier from an independent distributor, who delivers The San Diego Union-Tribune, may have been involved in an auto collision involving a family of ducks. Safety is a priority for us and we support safe and respectful work practices among the vendors with whom we do business. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police and National City firefighters used “scare tactics” this Halloween with elaborate haunted stations, touted as safer alternatives to traditional trick-or-treating on dark streets.The Southeastern Division police station building on Skyline Drive was transformed into a walk-though “haunted station," with room after room of zombies, creepy clowns and ghouls, some played by department employees in costume.“It’s all in good fun, for the kids to save a safe place to go, to get a little scared but in a safe environment,” San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman said before she took a tour of the haunts.Joseph Lemon, Jr. does not let his 11-year-old daughter Ananda do traditional trick-or-treating.“It’s not as safe as it used to be, and you have to go and x-ray the candy and all of that," Lemon, Jr. said. "Now many of the churches and the police department put on events like this that are safer.”  They also had candy and entertainment in the parking lot. Zimmerman said about 500 families tour the haunted station each year.In National City, the training tower at Fire Station #34 on East 16th Street became “Tower of Terror” for the tenth year in a row.Hundreds of people lined up throughout the night to walk through the maze of haunted rooms and be scared by ghouls, played by students from Sweetwater High School and firefighters.They also had candy, a costume contest, a bounce house and less-scary games for the little ones.National City Police say just after 8:30 p.m. several juvenile males threw eggs at the event.No one was hit and there was no damage to any property. But in a recent tournament, Shane Hansen put sportsmanship above being number one. After four matches, Hansen made it to the finals in the La Costa Canyon tournament. However, the final match was getting away from him. "It was the third period, the last period, I was down 12-3, I believe, we went out of bounds, and he ended up dislocating his shoulder," said Hansen. "I felt pretty bad because obviously, he was winning that match, and it wasn't my match to win."Hansen tried to forfeit himself from the match but was not allowed. "When he came up to me and was like, I want to trade my medal, I want to trade my medal, I was just kind of taken aback that in the moment, so quickly, he was wanting to do that," said Hansen's coach, Dustin Long. During the award ceremony, Hansen gave his gold medal to his opponent in exchange for the silver medal. Hansen held up two fingers representing second place in the podium photo, a symbolic gesture to his injured opponent. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County Board of Supervisors held an emergency meeting behind closed doors Thursday evening to discuss how to potentially keep businesses open after Gov. Gavin Newsom denied removing San Diego State’s COVID-19 cases from the county’s total case rate.The meeting, though, yielding no new actions by the county.In a statement, Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said since the board took no action, "it would be inappropriate to comment on the deliberation.""In general, I believe we should be fighting COVID-19 and not the state of California. We do not yet know what our case rate will be next Tuesday and will have to evaluate that number in order to understand any possible impact," Fletcher said.The county is now at risk of moving back to the most restrictive purple tier if the case rate is higher than 7.0 by next week. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are asking for the public’s help finding a man who went missing early in the day Wednesday. According to police, 77-year-old David McArthur left his home on the 7900 block of Wing Span Drive around 10 a.m. to work on his boat at The Southwestern Yacht Club. He was last seen walking toward his vehicle in the parking lot of the yacht club, according to a family friend. McArthur was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s six years ago. McArthur is described as a white man, 77-years-old who is bald with grey hair on the sides and a thin build. Police say he also wears a yellow metal wedding ring and black band digital watch on his left wrist. McArthur is from New Zealand and speaks with a slight accent.
