PRATHER, Calif. (AP) — A 9-year-old girl who lost her collection of baseball cards when a wildfire destroyed her family’s central California home received a huge surprise when firefighters presented thousands of new, donated cards and put her on the phone with her favorite player. Reese Osterburg didn’t get a chance to save her 200-card collection when the Creek Fire forced her family to evacuate. When local authorities heard about her loss, they put out a call for baseball card donations. A collector in San Jose donated more than 25,000 baseball cards, which were presented to Reese on Friday. She also received a call from San Francisco Giants player Buster Posey."This is the best day I’ve ever had," Reese told The Fresno Bee. "More than awesome, probably." 775

President Donald Trump and his lawyer Rudy Giuliani said Saturday that Friday's court filings in the Paul Manafort and Michael Cohen cases showed no collusion between the 2016 Trump presidential campaign and Russia."Time for the Witch Hunt to END!" Trump tweeted Saturday morning, referring to the special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation. The President also quoted Fox News correspondent Geraldo Rivera, saying "this is collusion illusion" and "there is nothing impeachable here."Rivera, who made the comments Saturday morning on Fox News, has called Trump a friend and appeared on his hit reality TV show, "Celebrity Apprentice."Earlier Saturday, Trump tweeted, "AFTER TWO YEARS AND MILLIONS OF PAGES OF DOCUMENTS (and a cost of over ,000,000), NO COLLUSION!"Giuliani echoed the President on Saturday, arguing that "Mueller's late Friday dump demonstrates yet again no evidence connected to President.""It also indicates SDNY is asking that Cohen receive a 4 year prison sentence, longest so far, because as we have said he's still lying," Giuliani wrote on Twitter, referring to the US attorney for the Southern District of New York. The comments come as Mueller's filings on Cohen and Manafort appear to further tighten the net that Mueller is gathering around the President and his inner circle. In a heavily redacted document, Mueller said Friday that former Trump campaign chairman Manafort lied about five major issues, including his "contact with administration officials," after agreeing to cooperate with federal prosecutors.Federal prosecutors in New York also revealed in a set of court filings Friday that Trump's former lawyer Cohen acted at the direction of Trump when he committed two election-related crimes during the 2016 campaign. Prosecutors said Cohen should receive a "substantial" prison sentence of roughly four years for tax fraud and campaign finance crimes. In a separate filing, prosecutors from Mueller's office accused Cohen of lying to them about his contacts with Russia.Despite the revelations in the filings, Trump tweeted after their release on Friday, "Totally clears the President. Thank you!" 2190

President Donald Trump pointed the finger Wednesday night at Democrats and the news media for the turbulent national political environment, on the same day explosive devices were mailed to the Obamas, the Clintons, CNN and other public officials.Trump took no responsibly for the tone of the political discourse.During a rally in Wisconsin, the President promised to bring those responsible for mailing the explosive devices to justice."Any acts or threats of political violence are an attack on our democracy itself. No nation can succeed that tolerates violence or the threat of violence as a method of political intimidation, corrosion or control, we all know that. Such conduct much be fiercely opposed and firmly prosecuted," he said."We want all sides to come together in peace and harmony. We can do it. We can do it. We can do it. It'll happen."Then he pivoted, saying those in the political arena "must stop treating political opponents as being morally defective.""The language of moral condemnation and destructive, routine -- these are arguments and disagreements that have to stop," he said.He complained of "mobs" -- a reference to protesters, who opposed Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination and confronted Republican senators on Capitol Hill, and who have challenged GOP lawmakers and Trump Cabinet officials at restaurants and in public."No one should carelessly compare political opponents to historical villains, which is done often and all the time. It's got to stop. We should not mob people in public spaces or destroy public property. There is one way to settle our disagreements -- it's called peacefully, at the ballot box. That's what we want," Trump said.He then said it's the news media's responsibility to set the national political tone."The media also has a responsibility to set a civil tone and to stop the endless hostility and constant negative and oftentimes false attacks and stories. Have to do it," he said.Trump took no responsibility for his own rhetoric -- which has included attacks on news outlets and Democratic opponents, as well as moments like a recent rally in Montana where he praised a Republican congressman who pleaded guilty to charges stemming from his body-slamming a reporter. 2247
