The figure for January-May period was 54.35 billion yuan, up 400 percent from year on year.

BEIJING, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Heavy rainfalls have ended in South China's flood-battered Provinces and water levels of major rivers in Jiangxi and Hunan provinces are receding, according to the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters (SFDH) Sunday.However, flood prevention work must not slow down since risks remain, said the SFDH.Also, water levels in Jiangxi Province's Ganjiang River and Poyang Lake remain higher than normal warning levels and water in Hunan Province's Dongting Lake is still rising.Persistent heavy rains that have devastated parts of south China had, by Saturday, left 379 dead, and 141 missing, and resulted in economic losses estimated at 82.4 billion yuan, the SFDH said.The torrential rains and ensuing floods have affected 68.7 million people in 22 provincial-level regions along with 4.36 million hectares of farmland, said the headquarters.

TORONTO, Canada, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao laid out on Sunday a three-point proposal for promoting a strong, sustainable and balanced global economic growth, calling for joint efforts of the international community for global economic recovery.While addressing the fourth G20 summit in Toronto, Hu said in his speech titled "Work in Unity for the Future" that the world economy is gradually recovering with the help of the concerted efforts of G20 members and the entire international community.However, he warned that the recovery was unfirmly established, unbalanced, and still facing "quite many uncertainties," such as the expanding sovereign debt crisis, drastic exchange rates fluctuations of major currencies and persistent volatility in the international financial markets.Seeking to address these problems and materialize a strong and balanced growth worldwide, Hu laid out a three-point proposal."First, we need to turn the G20 from an effective mechanism to counter the international financial crisis to a premier platform for advancing international economic cooperation," said the Chinese president."The complex world economic situation makes it necessary for the G20 to play a guiding role. ZHAOYUAN, Shandong, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Fourteen miners were confirmed dead, 23 others still trapped underground while 292 were lift to the ground safely following a fire that engulfed a gold mine in east China's Shandong Province Friday, local authorities said early Saturday morning.A total of 329 miners were working underground when the fire broke out at about 5 p.m. at the Luoshan Gold Mine run by Lingnan Mining Co. Ltd. in Zhaoyuan city, a spokesman with the rescue headquarters told Xinhua.Three hundred and six were lifted to the ground as of 5 a.m., but 14 of them were found dead, he said.Twenty-three people were still trapped underground, with 21 miners' locations identified, he added.Dozens of injured miners had been sent to two local hospitals, he said.An initial investigation showed that the fire was likely caused by an underground cable. Police were further investigating the incident.The mine owner had been taken into police custody, he said.Over 100 rescuers are working at the scene. Provincial Party chief Jiang Yikang and governor Jiang Daming have rushed to the scene to oversee the rescue work.
