SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A shark advisory is being issued Tuesday after witnesses reported seeing a five-foot-long shark near Black's Beach. According to Mónica Mu?oz with San Diego Fire-Rescue, the advisory is in place from the Mushroom House north to Bathtub Rock, also known as Flat Rock. “Some witnesses reported seeing a shark of about five feet in length which does not reach the threshold of a significant threat. However, the number of witnesses and the feeding behavior observed influenced the lifeguards’ decision to issue the advisory,” Mu?oz said. Just after 12:30 p.m., a group of 25 surfers got out of the water at Black's Beach after reportedly seeing a shark eating a sea lion. Another group of people reported similar information to a lifeguard. In the same area, Mu?oz says lifeguards witnessed a large sea lion eating a fish. The department says there were either two separate sightings in the area, or witnesses all saw a sea lion feeding on a fish, but mistook it for a shark. “We are acting out of an abundance of caution,” Mu?oz added. Lifeguards are conducting active patrols in the area to let people know what witnesses saw. Mu?oz says lifeguards are advising against water activity; however, the water is not closed to people who choose to enter. Signs will also be posted in the area. 1316

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Albertsons Companies confirmed Saturday an employee of an Escondido grocery store tested positive for COVID-19.The company said the store will remain open, and "will continue to follow an enhanced cleaning and disinfection process in every department."Public Affairs Director Melissa Hill said that the employee is receiving care and has not worked at the store since March 24. Hill said the Escondido store has been through multiple sanitizing and disinfecting cycles, and used third-party expert service.Hill said the store is monitoring other staff for symptoms."Following CDC guidelines, our Crisis Response Team may recommend that additional members of the store team self-quarantine. These employees will be eligible to receive up to 14 days of quarantine pay," said Hill.The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 135 President Todd Walters said they have been working with companies to get higher safety measures into the workplaces of members.He said three members of the union tested positive as of Saturday. He said they were all at different locations in San Diego County."We're encouraging and asking the members to 1. Make sure they get their social distance. 2. We want them to get time every 30 minutes to stop, wash their hands and clean their work stations," he said.Walters said Plexiglas has been installed at check out stands to protect workers at Albertsons and Vons, and next week Ralphs and Food For Less will see the same installation.He said employees are tired from the long shifts and urged the public to realize supplies aren't going anywhere. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An unresponsive man was pulled to shore Wednesday after possibly being swept out to sea by strong waves along Ocean Beach's coast.San Diego Fire-Rescue lifeguards responded to reports of the man not breathing at about 2 p.m. at Dog Beach. Lifeguards on jet skis found the man lodged into the rocks on the jetty, according to SDFD Sgt. Bruce Jamieson. He had reportedly been swept about 75 yards from shore, according to SDFD.Lifeguards performed CPR and rushed the man to a nearby hospital, but did not give an update on his condition.Witnesses said the man, who is approximately 50-years-old and from Nevada, may have been chasing after his dog in the water when he was pulled out to sea.A high surf advisory was issued for San Diego County's coastline from 10 a.m. Wednesday to 10 p.m. Thursday, bringing large sets and the threat of rip currents to the area's shores. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An Ocean Beach man was injured after two men stormed his home, beat him, and robbed him.Police say the 34-year-old victim was at his home on Cape May Ave. with a woman, possibly an ex-girlfriend, when there was a knock at the door at about 10 p.m.The woman answered the door and two men forced their way inside, one wielding an expandable baton and the other with a knife, police said.A struggle began between the victim and two suspects and the two men beat the victim several times, before ordering him to open a safe.After the suspect was unable to open the safe, the suspects rummaged through the home and stole several items, including credit cards. The two men then fled.The woman fled shortly after as well.The victim was treated at a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries.Police described the suspect with a baton as a 20- to 25-year-old white male, 5-foot 10-inches, with thin build. He was wearing dark clothing and may have had his face painted black, police added. The man with the knife was described as a 25- to 30-year-old Hispanic man, 6-feet tall, weighing about 220 pounds, and wearing a black sweatshirt and jeans. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A suspicious backpack prompted a bomb squad response downtown Tuesday afternoon. According to San Diego Fire-Rescue, the incident unfolded around 3:30 p.m. just outside the federal building on the 800 block of Front Street. Authorities say a security guard at the building saw a man acting suspiciously before tossing a military backpack into a planter. After using special equipment to examine the bag, the bomb squad found only personal items inside the bag. The FBI said it sent agents to the scene, but that the "matter is being led by Federal Protective Services." 596
