That's even if you've never taken one of those ancestry DNA tests.This is all thanks to those ancestry test kits. If someone’s relative takes the test, enough information is provided for scientists to link to you."Yes, eventually everyone's going to be traceable through DNA," says Itsik Pe’er, an associate professor at Columbia University.It also means solving crimes could get a lot easier.  Police have already started taking DNA from unknown suspects and comparing it to DNA databases.That information can lead to a match to a suspect’s relative."People want to connect to their long-lost second, third, fourth cousins and find those matches,” says Pe’er. “The flip side of that is that, yeah, investigators can find those matches due to DNA that have been sitting in these warehouses for decades."Pe'er is the co-author of a study at Columbia University that says scientists only need a 2 percent sample from the roughly 326 million people in the United States to be able to match anyone's DNA.Privacy experts worry that even people who have never committed a crime might not want to be matched to relatives.But it's a fact of science as the DNA sample continues to grow."It's just still incredible to think about, you know, like we live in such a big world, but it's really, really small," Pe’er says.Private companies are working to protect their databases, including places like My Heritage and 23andMe that prohibit forensic use of their databases in their user agreements. 1632

During the initial onset of the coronavirus pandemic, pediatric hospital visits dropped 42%, but in the months following, mental health visits by school-aged children jumped, according to new CDC data.According to data released by the CDC, the proportion of mental health–related visits for children aged 5–11 and 12–17 years increased approximately 24%. and 31%, respectively since March.“These findings provide initial insight into children’s mental health in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and highlight the importance of continued monitoring of children’s mental health throughout the pandemic, ensuring access to care during public health crises, and improving healthy coping strategies and resiliency among children and families,” the CDC said.The CDC said that many children receive mental health services through schools and community services. Many of these services were forced to close during the height of the pandemic.“The increase in the proportion of ED visits for children’s mental health concerns might reflect increased pandemic-related stress and unintended consequences of mitigation measures, which reduced or modified access to children’s mental health services, and could result in increased reliance on ED services for both routine and crisis treatment,” the CDC said. 1306

Due to the coronavirus, President Donald Trump and Joe Biden will not shake hands before or after Tuesday’s first presidential debate.Peter Eyre, a senior adviser for the Commission on Presidential Debates, said that the candidates and moderator Chris Wallace will not be wearing a mask during the debate.Eyre said that an audience will still be invited to the debate, but in order to gain access to the debate hall, attendees will have to pass a health screening, which will include on-site coronavirus testing. Eight college football games scheduled this weekend have been canceled due to the spread of the coronavirus. Among them, the championship game between unbeaten Coastal Carolina and Top 25 Louisiana-Lafayette was called off.The Sun Belt Conference canceled the contest because of a positive COVID-19 test from a member of Coastal Carolina, which resulted in an entire position group being forced to quarantine in order to follow protocol.“We are very disappointed that the championship game cannot be played, but we are so proud of all of the players and staff members and their hard work during this truly challenging season," said Sun Belt Commissioner Keith Gill. "We will honor both teams as 2020 Sun Belt Conference Co-Champions."Coastal Carolina defeated Louisiana in October by a 30-27 margin.Of the eight college football games canceled this weekend, five include a Top 25 team.The upcoming college football weekend features several big matchups that will determine the four teams that will be invited to the College Football Playoff.
