TIJUANA (KGTV) -- Mexico's president, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, spoke at a unity rally on Saturday evening, just hours after coming to an agreement with the U.S. avoiding tariffs on Mexican goods. The deal was announced Friday night. In his speech, Lopez Obrador said Mexico is open to collaboration. In his speech to a crowd of thousands, the president said the tariffs would have impacted both economies. The agreement means Mexico will send 6,000 troops to its southern border with Guatemala to help control migration and vowing to crack down on human trafficking and smuggling networks. Obrador's visit to Tijuana created tensions among Mexicans who have conflicting opinions about the deal. One of the world's biggest celebrations will see its own changes. Instead of the usual crowd in Times Square for the ball drop, there will be fewer than 100 people at the Crossroads of the World to ring in 2021. Doctors, nurses, teachers, grocery store employees and transit workers will be invited to enjoy the celebration in socially distances pens while everyone else watches from home.There will be a live broadcast, but just a small in-person audience, Tim Tompkins with the Times Square Alliance said. "To make up the experience we have a new way to watch," he said. "Besides broadcast TV, there is a New Year’s Eve app ,which is interactive.
