BEIJING, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese leaders have urged police chiefs across the country to step up their efforts in capability building to do good work in solving social conflicts and safeguarding stability.In his written instruction to a training session for city-level public security bureau heads, Zhou Yongkang, Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, told the police chiefs to strengthen their studies and exchanges, and continuously enhance their management capabilities to push forward the solving of social conflicts.Zhou also called for a harmonious relationship between the police and the people.State Councilor Meng Jianzhu, who is also minister of public security, said at the opening ceremony of the training course on Saturday that public security authorities should explore new measures to enhance their capability in safeguarding national security and social stability.About 470 police bureau chiefs attended the training session which will last for 10 days.

SHANGHAI, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao Friday called on the Chinese people to pool their strength and resources to make sure the Shanghai World Expo a success.     With just 106 days to go before the Expo opening on May 1, Hu visited the Expo site Friday during an inspection tour in Shanghai.     "Hosting the World Expo is not only a significant event of Shanghai, but also of the whole nation," he said, noting it was both the responsibility of Shanghai and the whole country to hold a successful Expo. "We can minimize the elements of potential dangers only if we trust, rely on and mobilize the grassroot organizations and the public."Yu made the remarks at the ongoing annual session of the municipal advisory body.The measures in safeguarding security and smooth traffic would interrupt the citizens's daily life. The government should seek public opinions and understanding to hold a successful Expo, he said."We should call for citizens to carry as few bags as possible or even no bags when traveling by subway so as to reduce the pressure on security checks," he said.The 2010 World Expo will be held from May 1 to Oct. 31 in Shanghai, expected to attract an record total of 70 million visitors.
