LAS VEGAS — The 54th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday, April 7 were hosted by country music superstar Reba McEntire it was her 16th time — breaking a record. The singer/sitcom star had jokes, and she talked about the fact it recently snowed in Las Vegas."It was so cold it froze us women out of entertainer of the year," she quipped.McEntire also joked about some of the more unique duets out there, teasing that she and Cardi B would be doing a song titled, "There's No 'U' in Oklahoma and That's Okuurrrtt with Me," using the rapper's now-famous catch phrase.Florida Georgia Line opened the show with Jason Aldean, performing its song "Can't Hide Red." Aldean was presented the ACM Dick Clark artist of the decade award."This Is Us" star Chrissy Metz made her live performance singing debut on the show with a song from her new film, "Breakthrough."The actress perfomed the movie's anthem, "I'm Standing With You," joined by singers Carrie Underwood, Lauren Alaina, Mickey Guyton and Maddie & Tae.Other performers throughout the night included Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Chris Stapleton, Blake Shelton, Maren Morris and Keith Urban.Dan + Shay were among the early winners, with the hit "Tequila" scoring song of the year. Italy has reported its biggest day-to-day jump in number of infected cases of COVID-19. National health authorities told reporters on Saturday that health officials recorded 3,497 new cases in 24 hours. That’s roughly a 20% increase in cases from the day before. A little more than half of those new cases occurred in Lombardy, the populous northern region which has been hardest hit in Europe’s worst outbreak. Italy’s total cases now tally 21,157.The death toll rose by 175. A day earlier, the same authorities had predicted glumly that Italy would still see a jump in cases despite a national lockdown that began on March 9, barely two days after severe restrictions on personal movement in the north. They cited irresponsible behavior by many citizens, who despite the earlier warnings not to gather in large numbers, headed to beaches or ski resorts, and hung out together in town squares, especially after the closure of schools. 947

It's a stark look inside some of the nation's public housing: Crumbling Walls, water-damaged ceilings and floors lines with mouse traps."It's just disgusting how we have to live," says Patricia Bishop, who lives at a public housing property in Washington, D.C.For 14 years, she says she has steadily seen conditions get worse." The mold, the rats, the mildew. ... It is just filthy and disgusting. We're humans but we're being treated like trash," she said.In some cases, conditions are so bad residents are being forced to leave. Mold drove out people who lived in that same property." When you don't have enough money, all you can do is move forward with band aid approaches," said Tyrone Garrett, who oversees public housing in DC.The federal government has cut funding in the past 10 years, he says, making conditions worse."I wouldn't want a family member of mine — my mother, my brother, my sister, my father or my grandmother living in conditions like this," he said. "Any more drastic cut to what we're doing and they'll be major impacts to our families — more than what we've seen here today."The White House argues a different approach is needed. The Trump administration says tax breaks will motivate private developers to help renovate these properties and invest in low-income communities."Our actions will directly improve the lives of countless low-income Americans, it's pretty much aimed at that," President Donald Trump has said. While some agree that public-private partnerships can help, the concern is it will take years to see the benefits."We can't revitalize 2600 units, even if we use private capital in any way shape or form quickly. It won't happen within a year," Garrett said.Any proposal will need the approval of Congress, and members of the President's own party have expressed concerns with parts of the plan. 1853

JACKSON, MO. — A rescued puppy is attracting a lot of attention because of his cute resemblance to a unicorn. The nearly 10-week-old puppy, named Narwhal, has a tail-like appendage growing from his forehead.Narwhal was rescued over the weekend and sent to Mac's Mission in Jackson, which specializes in fostering animals with special needs.Mac's Mission founder Rochelle Steffen says Narwhal doesn't notice the extra tail and is otherwise a happy, healthy puppy.Although it looks like a tail, Narwhal cannot wag it. Steffen says the rescue group has been flooded with requests from people wanting to adopt Narwhal since his picture hit social media. But he'll remain at Mac's Mission so his caretakers can be sure the tail doesn't grow out of proportion to his face and cause him problems. 799

It used to be frowned upon to show up to work in jeans. However, more companies are now making it “Casual Friday” every day.At the digital media firm Inboxlab, employees get to wear jeans, t-shirts and sneakers to the office."When people are wearing something they enjoy wearing or feel comfortable in, they will actually be able to perform at their best," says Sean Devlin, the vice president of operations at Inboxlab.Employee Victoria Hurd agrees, saying previous jobs did not give her the freedom she has at Inboxlab."The median age was 45 to 50. The expectation was completely different than what it is here,” she explains. “I had to wear a pantsuit, nice shirt, heels and things like that every single day. It was not stifling, but I felt regimented."Many people think the trend of dressing more casual has come from the younger workers."There’s a lot more of this millennial vibe and people wanting to get much more out of their lives than just at work," Hurd says.Dressing casual and comfortable is great, but there is such a thing as too casual."You don't want someone in a tracksuit, but you do want them to feel comfortable with what they are wearing,” Devlin says.Since every day is casual day, the company treats Fridays a little differently; they have theme days. Last week, the team dressed for Pride Week. "It’s more relaxed. We have open lines of communication amongst all of the team members,” Hurd says about the work environment. “There’s a really great culture at Inboxlab, in part because we are able to dress how we want to." 1560
