But one driver lived to tell the tale after hitting a black bear head-on.Corbin Hardy, 27, was driving home to Westlake, Ohio from West Virginia on Friday when a black bear darted across the Ohio Turnpike."I was cruising down the middle lane, and at the very last second, I see a face, and it's the face of a bear. It was not even a 100 feet in front of me when it was crossing the lanes," said Hardy. "I only had time to lift my foot off the pedal."Hardy said the bear was large and the impact was so intense that the airbags deployed and his engine was left smoking.The bear was found on the left shoulder, around 100 yards from where it was initially hit."It was crazy. Nothing like hitting a deer. I was going 70 miles per hour, normal cruising speed and when I hit the bear, my car slowed down to around 50 mph. My head barely touched the airbag," Hardy said.He totaled the 2010 Subaru Legacy that he purchased when he was 18, but was, fortunately, able to walk away without a scratch. Even his cabin was untouched.Authorities told him that the bear most likely died on impact."If it had to die, I'm grateful it was sudden," Hardy said.Sightings of black bears in the Cleveland area have increased in the last several weeks. But one day, he noticed he was running on empty. So he pulled over to the Citgo in Indianapolis. With more than 16 gallons of fuel, he was good -- for about a mile. "After I put the gas in the car, all the lights on the dash went on and the car started to shutter," Schwartz said. He took his 2005 Lexus to be checked out. A techncian took a gasoline sample and noted "mostly water found inside the gas tank. INDIANTOWN, Fla. — Heartbreaking new details are coming to light about the deadly shooting of a mother in front of her six children on Tuesday.According to Martin County, Florida, Sheriff William Snyder, Maribel Rosado Morales, 32, was shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend, Donald Williams, 27, inside a home.The sheriff said six children, ranging in age from 9 to 17, were inside the home at the time of the shooting."We think most of the children in the home saw it," Snyder said at a news conference on Tuesday.On Wednesday, WPTV spoke to Morales' fiancé and brother, both of who did not want to be identified. They confirmed that all six children are Morales' and she was keeping them home from school because of the COVID-19 pandemic."She was a strong person. She was a loving person," said Morales' brother.Morales' fiancé said he was on the phone with her when the shooting happened, and he could hear the children yelling that their mother had been shot.The fiancé said that after Morales was hit, she barricaded herself inside a closet for her safety and so her children wouldn't see."I was on the phone with her. I said, 'baby, call the police,'" Morales' fiancé said. "Why? She didn’t do nothing. Why? She didn’t deserve it. I wasn’t there to save her. I wasn’t there."Sheriff Snyder said at least one of the children was doing virtual learning during the first day of school in Martin County when the gunfire rang out."[The teacher] did hear some high tone conversation, noticed some kind of confrontation, muted it, and then watched the [child] put her hands up to her ears," Sheriff Snyder said.On Wednesday, Morales' family members said the child on the class call at the time is 9 years old and has Down syndrome.Williams was taken into custody not long after the shooting while trying to board a public transportation bus.“I have hatred.
