LOS ANGELES (AP) — A former business manager of Stan Lee has been arrested on elder abuse charges involving the late comic book legend.Los Angeles police say Keya Morgan was taken into custody in Arizona early Saturday on an outstanding arrest warrant.Morgan was charged earlier this month with felony allegations of theft, embezzlement, forgery or fraud against an elder adult, and false imprisonment of an elder adult.Authorities say Morgan sought to manipulate and exert control over Lee even though he didn't have authority to act on Lee's behalf.Lee died in November at the age of 95.Attorney Alex Kessel has said Morgan has never abused or taken advantage of Lee. An email was sent Saturday to Morgan's attorneys.Bail has been set for 0,000. Morgan will eventually be extradited to Los Angeles. 811

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Two young sisters missing from their Northern California home since Friday afternoon were found alive Sunday following a massive search that included helicopters and tracking dogs.Leia Carrico, 8, and Caroline Carrico, 5, were found "safe and sound" on Sunday morning by a fire captain and firefighter who had followed the girls' boot tracks, Humboldt County Sheriff William Honsal said."This is an absolute miracle," he said.Though the girls were dehydrated and cold, they were uninjured and "in good spirits," Honsal said.He said the girls were trained in outdoor survival through their local 4-H club and that authorities believed that helped them. They also were wearing boots and had eaten granola bars at some point while they were missing, he said."To have a positive outcome like this is just absolutely amazing," Honsal said.Using helicopters and tracking dogs, dozens of police and rescue personnel combed a vast and rugged rural area in the frantic search for the sisters. The girls had last been seen around 2:30 p.m. Friday outside their home in Benbow, a small community about 200 miles (320 kilometers) northwest of Sacramento. The searchers included National Guard members from Fresno and the U.S. Coast Guard, which provided one of its helicopters on top of a Black Hawk helicopter also being used.Rescuers were hopeful about finding the girls Saturday after they came across prints from the girls' rubber boots and wrappers from the granola bars, Lt. Mike Fridley said."The wrappers showed us a direction from where they started to where the wrappers ended up at," Fridley said.Fridley said he was the one who got to call the girls' mother and tell them her daughters were alive."She melted on the phone," he said.Honsal described the search area as vast, rugged and rural and the conditions as cold and sporadically rainy. 1866

LOS ANGELES (AP) — California’s plan to safely reopen its economy will begin to require counties to bring down coronavirus infection rates in disadvantaged communities that have been harder hit by the pandemic. The complex new rules announced late Wednesday set in place an “equity metric.” It will force larger counties to control the spread of COVID-19 in areas where Black, Latino and Pacific Islander groups have suffered a disproportionate share of the cases because of a variety of socioeconomic factors. The equity measure will require that positive test rates in its most disadvantaged neighborhoods, where rates are often much higher, do not significantly lag behind the county overall.Health officials in San Diego, Orange and San Francisco counties said they already have been targeting vulnerable communities with testing for the virus, providing interpreters and taking other measures to address inequality.Supporters of a more rapid reopening criticized the measure. 988

LOS ANGELES (KGTV) — California has destroyed more than 1.1 million illegal marijuana plants across 455 grow sites as part of the state's annual campaign against illegal cannabis.Over 13 weeks, the state conducted operations in 29 counties to eradicate the plants, arresting 140 individuals and seizing 174 weapons in the process. This year's campaign was also complicated by coronavirus precautions and wildfires throughout the state."Illegal marijuana planting risks public safety, endangers public health, and devastates critical habitats and wildlife," said California Attorney General Becerra. "Every year, the California Department of Justice works with federal, state, and local partners to hold illegal growers accountable and reclaim our public lands. I want to thank our CAMP teams for their resilience and commitment during this tumultuous year. Between COVID-19 and wildfires, the 2020 CAMP season was no cakewalk, but as a result of their hard work, more than one million illegal marijuana plants were eradicated."According to the Associated Press, the largest of this year's busts was in Riverside County where 293,000 plants were seized. The state says many of these illegal grow sites were loaded with trash and banned pesticides, which can find ways into the state's waterways. Illegal growers also disrupt the natural flow of water by creating irrigation systems, endangering nearby wildlife and plants, the state added. 1445

Looking for a holiday gift to take someone's mind off all the problems on Earth this year? With the pandemic spreading across the globe, it might be great if you could buy a place on another planet.Groupon claims you can do just that.Mel Winter was looking for deals on Groupon when she came upon the most bizarre deal she had ever seen."It was, 'Buy an acre of land from Mars,'" she said. "And I thought, 'How would that work?'"It was listed as just and even comes with an ownership deed.Winter was perplexed."At first I wondered, 'Would my acre appreciate if they land on Mars. Would they put a building on my land?'" she said. "And then I thought, 'Wait a minute, who owns Mars?'"Reminiscent of "name a star" offersIf this sounds vaguely family, it might be because you remember radio commercials that claimed you could buy a star and have that star named after you or a family member.Astronomer Dean Regas told us the International Astronomical Union is the only group that can name anything in outer space.Offers to name a star for a fee don't meet their requirements. Nor does buying a piece of Mars, which no one on Earth owns, meaning you cannot legally purchase a piece of it.But with a pandemic, protests and anger across the globe these days, Regas thinks Mars might be a great place to visit."Going to Mars is one of those things that could bring people together, and make us say this is something that humans have been striving to do, and we can do it," he said.As for whether this offer is legitimate, the fine print says it all, explaining that it is a novelty gift "for entertainment purposes only."So it's not a scam: You will get a certificate with your name on it.But you really don't own any land there, which means you can forget about flying to Mars to visit your new home.As always, don't waste your money.___________________________Don't Waste Your Money" is a registered trademark of Scripps Media, Inc.
