SAN TAN VALLEY, Ariz. — Authorities are asking people to be on alert after a man in a white SUV attempted to lure a 10-year-old girl in San Tan Valley, Arizona on Wednesday. According to the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, shortly before 4 p.m., a 10-year-old girl was walking with a friend near a park in the North Pecan Creek neighborhood when a man driving a white SUV pulled up next to them. The man reportedly told the girl that her brothers were in a serious accident and that she needed to go with him. The girl then asked the man what the "code word" was, but the man did not know and drove off."Kudos to the parents of this child for having a code word and talking about to their children about stranger danger," said Sheriff Mark Lamb. "We hope by putting this out, it will encourage parents to have that conversation and create a plan with their children, so they know what to do if they are in that situation."The SUV has been reportedly seen circling the park several times a day, according to children who live in the neighborhood. “This is generally what I consider a pretty safe area, I’ve never heard of anything bad,” said Patrick McDonald, who lives nearby.“This one time, it saved my daughters life,” said Brenda James, the girl’s mother.James talked to KNXV and the media so that other parents could learn about code words as she did.“We actually just came up that few months ago. So it was something really recent from a story that I read,” James said. The man is described as being possibly in his 40s with a short beard. The man reportedly covered most of his face with his hand while talking to the girl to conceal identifying features, officials said.“I’ll definitely be going home and having a talk with my daughter and developing a code word at the very least,” said McDonald.Anyone with information or sees the suspect, you are asked to call PCSO at (520)-866-5111 with any information. 1965

SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) - Viral cellphone video shows how things turned ugly when a Starbucks customer was asked to put on her mask in Santee. On Sunday afternoon, at a Starbucks on North Magnolia, 19-year-old barista Alex Beckom says a female customer in a blue top pulled down her 'Trump 2020' mask to ask a question. Beckom says she asked the customer to put on the mask, which she did, before becoming agitated and took it off again. That's when another customer told ABC 10News he started recording."I'm not gonna listen to anything you say to me, when you talk to me like that," the customer is heard saying."Okay, that's fine, but next time when you come in I'm going to need you to keep your mask on," responds Beckom in the video."I told her that, so if she ever came back, the customer and staff would be protected," says Beckom.Moments later, the customer served up a different motive."And I know it's because you're discriminating against me, because I'm a Trump supporter. F*** Black Lives Matter,' said the customer."If she thinks she’s being discriminated against, that’s on her. I never brought up anything about he politics ... I wasn't even angry. I was just like, "Why is this happening?" said Beckom. The customer became even more upset, when Beckom reminded her to wear her mask if she comes in again."No, it's not a law. I'll show you the penal code. It's a hoax. I don't have to wear a mask. I'm not going to wear a mask. This is America, and I don't have to do what you say. Trump 2020 ... F*** you," said the customer, raising her voice as she walked out of the Starbucks. The customer wasn't quite done and returned, yelling, "F*** Black Lives Matter," said Beckom. In Beckom's words, this is her first 'Karen' experience in three years as a barista. She posted it on social media, and it went viral with some two million views in a day."I think it’s important to show this type of behavior shouldn’t be normalized and shouldn’t be acceptable ... As this behavior continues, the cycle continues, and we need to get this cycle to stop," said Beckom.A Gofundme campaign has been set up to help Beckom with her college education and to help her co-workers at the Starbucks. 2198

SAN YSIDRO (KGTV) -- Local businesses are feeling a one-two punch after the border closure for non-essential travel was extended during the coronavirus pandemic. The owner of El Rincon Restaurant in San Ysidro said the extension is devastating for business."I just found out a couple hours ago that they were going to do this, I had absolutely no clue," Owner Edgar Alaniz said. He was looking forward to the reopening of the border planned for June 22, now pushed back for a third time to July 21.Alaniz said he didn't want to be mad because all of this is to protect our health and safety but it's extremely difficult for businesses to survive after being closed for three months. Alaniz said about 75-80% of their customers come from Mexico. Currently, the business is only seeing about 20% of those customers. "That's what happens when the border is closed for three months, people find different ways and for a restaurant like me, they find a different restaurant," he said.He hopes when the border reopens to welcome them back.Alaniz said they closed the restaurant March 15, and continued with take-out service. Just last week they reopened for dine-in service with protective procedures, like masks and extra cleaning, in place.Alaniz hopes to see more of his neighbors reopening as well, saying he only knows of one other locally owned restaurant in San Ysidro reopening so far.He is confident we will all get through this, "we move forward with strength and a bright vision, that's what it is and that's what it will always be about."The news comes as the U.S., Canada, and Mexico agreed to extend their agreement to keep their borders closed to non-essential travel through July 21 during the coronavirus pandemic."This is an important decision that will keep people in both of our countries safe,” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Tuesday. 1870

Saturday is expected to be quite busy at retailers and malls across America, according to the National Retail Federation. While that is probably not a surprise given Christmas is less than a week away, the fact that this year’s “Super Saturday” is expected to be busier than 2019 might come as a surprise given the pandemic and higher unemployment this year. What likely doesn’t come as a surprise is more Americans are planning to shop online this weekend. Here is how consumers plan to shop this weekend:52% online30% department stores20% discount stores17% electronic storesThe National Retail Federation remains optimistic that 2020 will be a good holiday season for retailers. The NRF says that it expects retail sales to be up this year from 3.6% to 5.2%.“While traditionally a popular item, it’s clear that the pandemic has impacted ‘gifts of experience’ this year,” Prosper Executive Vice President of Strategy Phil Rist said. “With continued uncertainty around gatherings and out-of-home activities, we saw the biggest decline in plans to gift an experience among those ages 35 – 44 but the under-25 cohort also saw a significant dip.” 1151
