SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A pair of thieves stole a safe and pistol-whipped a woman during a home-invasion robbery in the Jamacha-Lomita neighborhood, police said Tuesday.The robbery happened shortly before 5:10 p.m. Monday at a group home on Blackstone Court, a short, dead-end street off Meadowbrook Drive south of Jamacha Road, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said.A man and a woman entered through the back door of the home, then began asking around for the manager of the home, Buttle said. When a 40-year-old woman told them the manager lived upstairs, the pair began looking around and the male suspect spotted a safe.The man picked up the safe and an altercation ensued, during which he pistol-whipped the 40-year-old victim, the officer said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Father Joe's Villages and Connections Housing were gearing up to accommodate more than 160 additional homeless residents needing shelter Tuesday night due to forecasted rain, according to the San Diego Housing Commission. The commission activates its Inclement Weather Shelter Program when temperatures drop below 50 degrees and the chance of rain is higher than 40%, the temperature falls below 45 degrees regardless of the chance of rain or sustained high winds are predicted. The program is funded through a partnership between the commission, the city of San Diego, Father Joe's and Connections Housing. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An 18-year-old man was shot twice in the stomach during an armed robbery early Thursday morning in a Mission Beach parking lot, police said.Two 18-year-old men were in a car leaving a party at the Bahia Resort Hotel, 998 West Mission Bay Drive, when they were approached by two men on foot in a public parking lot on Gleason Road at around 12:30 a.m.One of the men on foot pulled out a gun and pointed it at the pair in the car while demanding items from them, San Diego Police Department Officer Robert Heims said. The victims got out of the car and the man with the gun stole a chain necklace from one of the victims.The other victim tackled the gunman and was shot twice in the stomach, the officer said.The suspects fled in an unknown vehicle and the victim who had his necklace stolen drove the gunshot victim to a hospital for treatment of his wounds, Heims said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - After being reassured that motorists' privacy would not be compromised, the county Board of Supervisors Wednesday unanimously approved a plan to electronically collect license plate data as part of a vehicle- emissions study aimed at improving air quality.Under the plan, the county Air Pollution Control District will use automated license reader software to analyze vehicles at 12 intersections in disadvantaged communities, including Barrio Logan, Logan Heights, Sherman Heights and western National City.A state grant will pay for the ,500 automated license plate reader system, which will collect license plate numbers and vehicles' weight, make and model.Jon Adams, assistant director of APCD, said the data will be collected in a secure method and kept at the district office, and would not be shared with anyone else.
