CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- Chula Vista police investigators are searching for clues in the fatal shooting of a 52-year-old man early Saturday morning.Officers responded to a report of gunshots at around 5:08 a.m. in the 900 block of Agua Tibia Avenue, a few blocks west of Cook Elementary School.A witness led officers to a residence where gunshots were believed to have originated, according to CVPD Lt. Dan Peak.Peak said when officers entered the home, they discovered the victim on the ground with a gunshot wound."Officers attempted life saving measures on the subject and despite resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the scene," said Peak.The victim has been identified as Dean Tinsley. No further information about the victim was released.Peak said there is no known motive for the slaying at this time. CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A man was arrested today on suspicion of trying to open a bank vault where some employees had locked themselves in to hide from the suspect, police said.Police received two calls from an employee of Wells Fargo Bank in the 1200 block of Broadway at 9:36 a.m. Saturday, according to Lt. Scott Adkins of the Chula Vista Police Department. The first call was about a man causing a disturbance outside the bank, and the second call was to report an attempted robbery by the same man inside the bank.Police arrived at the bank and arrested Elieser Hurta, 27, who was trying to open the bank's vault with a set of keys stolen from an employee, Adkins said.Hurta was unarmed and no employees were injured in the attempted robbery, the lieutenant said. One bank employee fainted during the incident, and some employees were found hiding inside the vault, he said.Hurta was arrested on suspicion of two counts of robbery in the theft of personal items from two bank employees, and one count of attempted robbery for trying to open the bank's vault, Adkins said. 1080

CHULA VISTA (KGTV) - Chula Vista police are searching for a possible arsonist after two brush fires burned part of Otay river bottom Friday afternoon. Fire crews responded around 2 in the afternoon to the area south of Main Street and east of Broadway. While crews were working to put out the fire, they received a call of a second fire in the same location. The second fire presented more difficulties because of its location. Batallion Chief David Albright tells 10News, "it was kind of down in the slough, in the river bottom, so we were able to bring in a helicopter and make some water drops". Multiple water drops were made and fire crews had both fires out within an hour. Chula Vista police are continuing their search for a possible arsonist. They believe there could be a connection to one of the homeless individuals living near the Otay River bottom. San Diego County sheriffs also sent up their helicopter to look for a suspect in the brush but were unsuccessful. 985

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a suspect after two women discovered the body of a homeless man in Chula Vista Tuesday morning. According to police, two sisters were walking on the 1400 block of Broadway around 1:20 a.m. when they discovered a man who wasn’t breathing.Officers tried to save the man, later identified as 56-year-old Ivan Velez, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators later found signs of trauma and are currently searching for a suspect. No description of the suspect was given.
