SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diegans may start to feel meaningful relief from the housing crisis within 10 years, state Assemblyman Todd Gloria said Thursday.Speaking to 10News before a forum on how to create housing for the middle class, Gloria said a series of new laws going into effect Jan. 1, and other efforts, could help bring relief to rising rents and home prices. “I think it’s reasonable within the decade to see change on this, this problem has become so acute that people really are demanding solutions,” Gloria said. “I think a lot of my colleagues in the legislature also understand that they have to do something. What’s been done in recent history is not working.”Gloria pointed to Governor-elect Gavin Newsom’s platform of radically increasing the amount of housing production in California. "You can pay your fees on a square footage basis rather than a per unit basis, that should result in some savings, and if done correclty at the right price points there can actually be less parking, which also saves costs,” Gloria said.Still, there is a long way to go. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police and Crime Stoppers released photos Wednesday in the search for the burglars responsible for taking half a million dollars’ worth of items during break-in at the Fashion Valley Hermes de Paris store.Up to 10 people got out of three vehicles at the north end of the mall about 4:15 a.m. on Sunday, January 18. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego County is working to make it easier for San Diegans to get flu shots, which health officials say is especially important this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.On Thursday, local leaders kicked off efforts to promote flu vaccinations. Over the course of the next few weeks, they will be hosting pop-up clinics across the county where people can get free flu shots.The pop-up clinics are designed for those who don’t have insurance or those who can’t get the vaccine from their health care provider or pharmacy.Valentina Christiansen came to one of the clinics to get flu shots for her family. She said, “I think it’s great because I tried to go through our health plan and that’s over a month out, and we wanted to get it sooner. We heard about the opportunity and we’re excited to be able to do that.”Dr. Denise Foster, chief nursing officer for the county, said getting the flu vaccine can also help in the battle against the coronavirus. Keeping flu patients out of the hospital frees up beds and resources for those fighting COVID-19.“The flu vaccine can prevent the flu and prevent people from seeking health care services that might be needed right now connected to the pandemic,” Foster said.Foster added there are more people that have gotten the flu vaccine this year in comparison to this same time last year.
