SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — In response to a rise in coronavirus cases among San Diego State students, the campus said Wednesday it will move all its classes online for the next month.The school says it has recorded 64 confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases in students since the start of fall classes on Aug. 24, but that doesn't mean there is an outbreak on campus. Many of the cases have come from students living off-campus. The school says 15 cases out of 7,997 on-campus students have been reported since the start of the semester.A little more than 100 students are currently quarantined out of an abundance of caution, said Andrea Dooley, Associate Vice President for Student Affairs.One of the positive cases arrived in San Diego from out of state, according to County Medical Director Dr. Eric McDonald. McDonald said there is one off-campus gathering under investigation as to whether it meets the "outbreak" designation.RELATED: San Diego State fraternities ban social events this fall due to COVID-19In response to the growing number of students testing positive, SDSU moved all classes online for the next four weeks. The campus had been hosting about 200 classes in-person, many of which were lab classes that were determined to only be possible in person.Starting Sept. 3, all athletic events have also been paused for two weeks."We understand there may be some frustration with this decision ... the shift to the virtual space does not impact our students who are living on campus," said Luke Wood, Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Diversity. Indoor access to the campus' library will also be restricted, but outdoor seating will remain open.Wood added that the rise in cases among students is expected when people from different backgrounds and locations are coming together."SDSU has been proactively prepared for this, really since, the spring and all through the summer with the onset of the pandemic," Wood said.RELATED: SDSU begins 2020-21 school year with mostly virtual classesWhen the school becomes aware that a student resident has tested positive or is exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms, an Assessment and Response Team is used to isolate the sick student and, if needed, close contacts are notified.Several campus apartments have been designated for isolating students when needed. For those isolated, a hygiene kit and food and meal delivery are provided by SDSU to those isolated students, Wood says.To address off-campus students testing positive, the school had banned fraternity events and instituted several policies to stop the spread of the coronavirus. Those policies include hiring security to patrol the campus after hours, document violations, and report to staff who handle disciplinary action. It will make it easier for me."If you've paid attention to California's real estate landscape, the market is hot in many cities."We're seeing about a 10 percent increase in the last four to five months, and that's insane considering where we were," said Jordan Beal, president of the Beal Group.Beal said the San Diego area sees an influx of buyers from New York, the Bay Area, and Los Angeles."When you look at the fact that money is as cheap as it is, people who have been able to keep their jobs combined with a lot of tech people who can now work remotely and see San Diego as really cheap market compared to the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and New York, I don't see our market slowing down anytime soon," Beal said.The same thing is happening as you head north into the Central Valley."Inventory is historically low, interest rates are historically low, and it's just kind of the perfect storm with that whole supply and demand," said Ronda Newport, president of the Bakersfield Association of Realtors.Newport said the Bakersfield market is on fire.It's a combination of locals looking to take advantage of interest rates and those from wealthier ZIP codes trying to get out of a big city."If you have an LA buyer or a Bay Area buyer, and if they sell their home, you know a small little home for what they sell for in that area, and they move to Bakersfield, and they see what they can get for the money here, it's an easy decision," she said."We are just breaking all sorts of records," said Bruce Blair of Blair Properties.Blair's been selling homes along the Central Coast since the 70s.He said some people are buying houses they've never seen. Some buyers are paying in cash, and those who aren't have large down payments."It's tough to make any type of prediction right now, but right now, the housing market is not affordable for a lot of people in San Luis Obispo County, and that's a problem."According to the California Association of Realtors, September's statewide median home price was 2,430. That's up more than 17 percent from September of last year.According to a survey from Zillow, life uncertainty, likely caused by COVID-19, keeps more than a third of would-be sellers out of the market.The Zillow survey found many sellers say they anticipate a higher sale price if they wait.So, what to do? Unfortunately, there's no crystal ball."I don't anticipate it slowing down too much," said Carla Farley, President of the Greater San Diego Association of Realtors. "Unless we get some interest rates that go crazy after the election cycle, maybe that might slow some things, but I don't anticipate that happening either."According to the California Association of Realtors, the median number of days it took to sell a California single-family home was 11 days in September, down from 24 in September 2019. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Los Angeles County health officials are scrambling to prevent the spread of hepatitis A after three people became infected with the potentially deadly virus while in San Diego two months ago.In a motion filed by Los Angeles County's Fifth District Supervisor Kathryn Barger, she is asking the Dept. of Public Health to provide a report within 14 days on current efforts to stop an outbreak and a plan for response should one occur."At this time Public Health does not consider there to be a hepatitis A outbreak in Los Angeles County, however it is important that the County proactively educate the community on ways to prevent hepatitis A infection, and have a response plan in the event that the County does see an increase in hepatitis A cases," Barger said in her prevention plan.Citing public health officials, Barger says that the three people who acquired the infection had been in San Diego in mid-July.READ: Most hand sanitizers will not kill Hepatitis A?San Diego County health officials are in the midst of an hepatitis A epidemic with the first cases reported early this year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — In a scientific 10News/Union-Tribune poll, more than half of respondents said they supported California's Proposition 13.At least 51 percent of 907 respondents said they intend to vote "yes" for the proposition. Another 32 percent said they plan to vote "no," and 17 percent were not sure how they would vote yet.
