NEW YORK (AP) — A new federal report shows vaping rates among U.S. teenagers fell dramatically this year.The drop comes in the wake of last year's outbreak of vaping-related illnesses and deaths.The national survey found that just under 20% of high school students and 5% of middle schools students were recent users of electronic cigarettes and other vaping products.That marks a big decline from a similar survey last year that found about 28% of high school students and about 11% of middle school students recently vaped. That's a decline of about 1.8 million teens total.The survey was done by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. They looked at survey data from middle school and high school students, grades 6-12.Despite the progress in lowering the number of teens using e-cigarettes, there are 3.6 million youth who currently use them. New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced he is resigning from his office on Monday, just hours after a report surfaced of four women accusing Schneiderman of physical violence against them. Two women, Michelle Manning Barish and Tanya Selvaratnam, spoke on the record to the New Yorker, both saying they had been romantically involved with Schneiderman but that the violence was nonconsensual.According to The New Yorker, Barish and Selvaratnam said he had hit and choked them, and that they later sought medical attention because of it. Selvaratnam also alleged that Schneiderman threatened to tap her phone, among other threats.Both women alleged that the incidents often occurred after Schneiderman had been drinking. 761

Nearly two dozen schools in metro Detroit were closed on Thursday due to threats. Detroit Police Chief James Craig said since the Florida school shooting on Feb. 14, DPD received a total of 40 threats, consisting of two bombing threats, 34 shooting threats, and two bombing and shooting threats.At one of the targeted schools, John R. King Academy, class was already in session when the bomb squad arrived at the school on the report of a suspicious package. The kids were dismissed for the day after it was found to be safe.Anyone arrested could potentially face charges of terrorism and making threats online. If convicted, those charges carry a 20-year penalty.Craig said in the last 24 hours, DPD has received 23 threats. Three juveniles and one adult have already been arrested for numerous threats. Craig says more people will be in custody soon."It's going to end," he said. None of the countries that make up the G20 group of major world economies is on course to adequately reduce climate change, with 82% of the bloc's energy supply still coming from fossil fuels, a new report has warned.Of the countries, only India has set targets that would keep global temperature rise below 2 degrees Celsius, the upper limit recommended by the Paris Climate Agreement, if adopted globally.Overall, the world is heading for a 3.2-degree rise, the organization Climate Transparency said, in an analysis of the G20's current emissions-cutting targets for 2030 published Wednesday.Targets set by the worst offenders -- Russia, Saudi Arabia and Turkey -- would lead to a rise of more than 4 degrees if they were adopted worldwide, the report added.The G20 comprises representatives from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the European Union, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States.The landmark Paris Agreement, drafted in 2015, resulted in an aim to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees compared to pre-industrial levels, with 2 degrees set as an upper limit.But the report cautions that those targets are virtually impossible to reach at current rates. It follows similar warnings made last month by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which found that the earth will reach the crucial 1.5 degree threshold as early as 2030."The G20 economies actually need to cut their emissions by half by 2030 to keep warming below 1.5°C," said Jan Burck, senior adviser at equality NGO Germanwatch, one of the report's authors.
