SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Residents of San Diego County are still disposing of more waste than the average Californian, according to a report by the research group Equinox Project at the Center for Sustainable Energy.According to the report, San Diego continues to dispose of more waste per capita than any of the other major urban counties throughout the state.The latest numbers, which came out in 2016, show that each San Diegan tossed out an average of 5.5 pounds of trash per day in 2016.Within San Diego County, residents in Del Mar disposed of the most trash at 16.5 pounds per capita.Residents of Imperial Beach, however, disposed of the least trash at 3.3 pounds per person followed by Chula Vista at 3.7 pounds per capita.The numbers show that three jurisdictions, Solana Beach, Lemon Grove and Coronado, decreased their waste disposal in 2016.Residents of within the city of San Diego disposed of 5.9 pounds of waste per person per day.The numbers below show how much trash per capita jurisdictions around the county disposed of: 1052

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Rancho Bernardo High School briefly went on “secure campus” Monday morning after receiving an anonymous threat.According to the school, employees received an email threatening violence against the campus around 9:30 a.m. Monday. The threats weren’t specific to Rancho Bernardo High School, according to a letter sent to parents.Employees notified police, who had officers on campus within a few minutes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police are investigating the discovery of a woman's body in the waters off Fiesta Island Saturday.Police said they received a call just after 6:40 a.m. about a body floating in the water on the south side of the island. San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel arrived and removed the body from the water and pronounced the victim dead.Police said while there are no obvious signs of trauma, because of the circumstances and condition of the body SDPD Homicide investigators were called to the scene.Little is still known about the victim and circumstances surrounding her death, police said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego is giving dockless scooters and bikes preferred parkingThe city is in the process of installing 330 rideshare scooter and bike spaces throughout downtown. The first few of them have been spotted in Cortez Hill. “I think it’s smart,” said Carlos Navarro who work at a restaurant in the Gaslamp “they drive by our store — running into the customers or hit the cars that are parked.” The city says the spaces are being placed at red zones where cars cannot park. “It’s not going to be as crowded or cluttered,” said scooter rider Autumn McFeeley, “the city must really like them.” A class action lawsuit was filed against the city earlier this year claiming San Diego has failed to maintain pathways for people with disabilities. “Allowing there to to be safe storage and parking for those vehicles off the sidewalk is a much better approach, said Colin Parent with Circulate San Diego, “it’ll help minimize those kinds of conflicts” The city of San Diego says more information will be made available about this project in coming days. 1069

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County sheriff's deputies fished a man out of the ocean in Del Mar who they say rammed a Border Patrol truck at the end of a dangerous chase.According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department's North Coastal Station, it all started when deputies tried to pull the man over in a blue Smart car driving with no lights or a license plate.The driver failed to stop and took out a road sign then drove the wrong way down Coast Boulevard in Del Mar around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.A few minutes later, the man crashed into a Border Patrol truck at the dead-end of 15th Street. No one was inside the truck at the time.Border Patrol agents spotted the driver running towards the beach.The man jumped over the bluffs' edge and plunged naked into the water, where he spent two hours in the surf.He was taken into custody after he was fished out of the ocean by a Border Patrol boat around 4:15 a.m.Deputies are currently attempting to identify the suspect. 982
