The woman who became internet famous in October for flipping the bird at President Donald Trump's motorcade, and then said she was subsequently fired, is suing her former employer for unlawful termination.Juli Briskman was fired from the marketing team at Akima LLC in November shortly after she volunteered that she was the one who had made the gesture in a photo that went viral, she said at the time."I thought that it would probably get back to my company eventually," Briskman said in an interview with CNN's Jeanne Moos. She said she was told she had violated the company's social media policy, and said the company in turn fired her.Briskman tweeted Wednesday that "I was fired from my job for flipping off @realDonaldTrump. Today, I filed suit with @GellerLawyers & @protctdemocracy because what happened to me was unlawful and un-American."Her attorney, Maria Simon, reiterated this point in a statement through the nonprofit Protect Democracy,"Juli's expression of disapproval of the President is fundamental political speech protected by both the United States Constitution and Virginia state law," she said. "Akima's actions -- forcing Juli to resign out of fear of unlawful retaliation by the government -- violated the basic tenets of Virginia employment law. Ms. Briskman chose in her private time and in her capacity as a private citizen to express her disapproval of President Trump by extending her middle finger."CNN has reached out to Akima LLC seeking comment. 1512

The Senate is expected to vote on an economic relief package this week and while it has little chance of passing the House, it is sending a very clear message to airlines: help may not be coming. United Airlines and American Airlines have both threatened thousands of their employees with layoffs if government assistance doesn't come before October 1. October 1 is the first date airlines that took bailout money from earlier this year can layoff workers under the terms set by Congress. United is looking at cutting around 16,000 employees while American is slashing around 19,000 workers. Southwest and Delta, notably, are not laying off workers after offering buyouts to many workers. For weeks, airlines and unions were holding out hope lawmakers would pass a bill after returning from their August recess. The Association of Flight Attendants took to Capitol Hill Wednesday to demand action. 906

The sudden and abrupt breakdown of the US Postal Service has unfolded in recent days as Democrats call for a funding boost ahead of this year’s presidential election. On Friday, the USPS announced a temporary price increase in some services from Oct. 18 until Dec. 27. The rate hike affects commercial services, as retail services are not affected.Meanwhile, the USPS has been removing mailboxes and processing machines. The machines and mailboxes are being removed across the country, according to local reports from a number of Scripps stations. On Friday, CNN and the Washington Post reported that a number of states have received letters from the Postal Service warning that they might not have the ability to ensure ballots are sent and returned in a timely manner. The warning comes as more Americans are expected to utilize mail-in voting due to the coronavirus pandemic.“The Postal Service is asking election officials and voters to realistically consider how the mail works,” Martha Johnson, a spokeswoman for the USPS, said in a statement to the Washington Post.Despite requesting a mail-in ballot himself for next week’s Florida primary, President Donald Trump has tried to sow doubt in recent weeks over the reliability of mail-in voting, claiming that the process is ripe with fraud. But there has been limited evidence to suggest his fears are founded. With the postal service facing financial troubles due to rising pension costs and decreasing usage, Trump said he would agree to funding the Postal Service, but would need some concessions from Democrats."Sure, if they gave us what we want. And it’s not what I want, it’s what the American people want," Trump said Friday. 1694
