SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Newly-elected San Diego District 4 councilwoman Monica Montgomery is vowing to improve the relationship between her community and the police department. On Monday, she was unanimously appointed to the Public Safety and Livable Neighborhoods Committee. More than a dozen community members spoke during a special meeting on Monday, backing Montgomery. The overwhelming support for her appointment quickly turned to frustration and anger towards the rest of the council and the police department about Aleah Jenkins, who died in SDPD custody early this month. Montgomery says she hears the community's frustration and is ready to get to work. "A lot of this stems just not from the support of me, but the desire to have real action in our community when it comes to our police and community relations," said Montgomery.She plans on taking a closer look at an SDSU racial profiling study within the department and look into possibly giving the Community Review Board subpoena powers to allow them to perform independent investigations and obtain sworn testimony during alleged police misconduct. "I'm confident we'll do the right thing. Everyone will need to do the right thing; we're at a crossroads and we need to do the right thing by our people and by our officers," added Montgomery. The police department insists there is no evidence of force used during Jenkins' arrest and is referring all questions to the district attorney. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police in a standoff with a woman for nearly an hour before they say she tried to run over officers.It started with someone reporting a woman parked at a gas station and blaring music on Balboa Avenue in Clairemont.When officers arrived they asked her to turn down the music but she refused and at one point held up a piece of paper to her window that said no.After about 45 minutes, officers placed spike strips under her tires. That's when police say she tried to ram her way out, striking several police cars and running over the spike strips.She lost control, drove across lanes and jumped the median and spun out on Mt. Alifan Drive.Officers surrounded her car, smashed out the side window and dragged her out. During the scuffle to take her into custody, at least one officer suffered some minor cuts and bruises.Police say the woman will likely face assault with a deadly weapon charges. 922

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Opponents of  San Diego's new short-term rental regulations are accusing the city council of violating the Brown Act when it passed the new rules earlier this month. A letter drafted by an attorney on behalf of Air B and B, Home Away and Share San Diego was sent to the council Monday. It alleges the council violated the law when it made significant changes to the original proposal up for approval and then voted without allowing for more public comment. What they passed would essentially ban people from renting out anything other than their primary residence or a guesthouse on their property. The opponents are asking the council to hold another hearing. The city council is scheduled to hear a second reading of the short-term rental regulations Wednesday, August 1.  852

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Music lovers can enjoy a summer filled with shows in Chula Vista for one flat rate next year.Live Nation's season lawn pass grants fans access to lawn seating during a participating venue's 2020 concert season, "even sold out shows." The pass is 9 per person (plus service fees) and available for 29 different locations, including Chula Vista's North Island Credit Union Amphitheater.Last season, local pass holders were granted access to more than 20 shows. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police have identified the man suspected of stabbing a 55-year-old to death in the Midway District Thanksgiving Day. According to San Diego Police, Forrest Robert Brantley, 38, stabbed 55-year-old Robert Frank Erbe around 8 a.m. November 28 on the 3100 block of Sports Arena Boulevard. Erbe was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries.RELATED: Police identify man killed in Midway District stabbingAfter investigating the stabbing, police learned that Brantley and Erbe got into some sort of fight before Brantley is accused of stabbing Erbe in the neck. Brantley was last seen walking away from the scene. He is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached, police say. He is wanted for the murder investigation as well as for a parole violation. Anyone who spots him is asked to call 911.
