(KGTV) — The Fairbanks Ranch Country Club is an oasis along an otherwise remote stretch of road that winds away from Del Mar.But for a number of female employees working inside its clubhouse, it was something much darker.A new lawsuit filed by the Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleges that around 2016, former manager Shant Karian sexually harassed a number of the workers, with financial consequences if they didn't play along.For one of the workers, the suit says Karian repeatedly made sexual advances, hitting her buttocks, putting his arm around her waste and choking her, and repeatedly pursuing her sexually. He told another to wear a tighter blouse, and sent one text messages asking to see her backside, the suit says.RELATED: Carmel Mountain Ranch residents raise concerns over golf course closureKarian also allegedly told male customers one worker could give them lap dances.The lawsuit says Karian made the schedule, and those who didn't comply were subject to lower pay rates, reduced hours, and threatened with termination.Karian did not return a call seeking comment.Annie Appel, a spokeswoman for club owner The Bay Club Company, says Fairbanks Ranch terminated Karian for cause after an internal investigation in October 2016 after an internal investigation."The Bay Club Company is aware of the EEOC’s allegations and will respond in a timely manner to the claims made in the complaint," Appel said. "TBCC is committed to a safe, harassment-free work environment for everyone."Anna Park, an attorney for the EEOC, said sexual harassment in the workplace continues to be an issue nationwide."The power differential is really what is the problem in these harassment cases," she said. Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee completed a significant step in confirming President Donald Trump's pick for a new Supreme Court justice on Thursday, despite Democrats' attempts to throw up parliamentary roadblocks in an attempt to delay the process.The committee reconvened at 9 a.m. ET on Thursday — four hours earlier than was previously scheduled — and held a vote that sent Barrett's confirmation to the Senate floor. No Democrats were present for the vote, following the promise of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-New York, who said Monday that they intended to "boycott" the vote.Committee rules require that a quorum — or a minimum number of senators from the minority party — be present at the meeting for a vote to take place. Republicans simply changed the committee rules and voted anyway.Schumer tweeted Wednesday that he will force a vote to adjourn the Senate until after the election. That vote will likely fail, given that Republicans control the Senate. He and other top Democrats will hold a press conference later on Thursday.According to The Washington Post, some Democrats placed cardboard cutouts of their constituents who have benefitted from the Affordable Care Act in their seats.Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says he plans to keep Senators in Washington through the weekend to focus on Barrett's confirmation. McConnell has said he plans to conduct the full Senate vote on Barrett's confirmation on Monday. RED BLUFF, Calif — Two people were left dead and at least four people were in fair condition Saturday after a man drove into a distribution center and started shooting at people. The two deceased people and the four injured ones were treated at St. Elizabeth Community Hospital in Red Bluff. Authorities shot the man. Emergency dispatchers told the Record-Searchlight newspaper that the shooting by a man with “AR-type weapon” started about 3:30 p.m. at the Walmart distribution center. Dispatchers say there also was a fire at the site, and the suspect appears to have rammed a vehicle into the building. The suspect had been shot in the chest around 3:45 p.m. 669
