SANTA ANA (CNS) - A man who drove drunk and veered into oncoming traffic while making a turn, slamming head-on into a minivan and killing a mother of three in Lake Forest, was convicted today of second-degree murder.William Joseph Carroll, 51, of Mission Viejo, had a blood-alcohol level of about 0.23 -- nearly three times the legal limit -- when his Ford F- 250 pickup truck slammed into a Toyota Sienna minivan driven by 36-year-old Ana Martinez about 11:40 p.m. May 7, 2013, Deputy District Attorney Daniel Feldman told jurors during the trial.Martinez, who was driving to work at the time, was "crushed to death" in the crash, Feldman said.The prosecutor said Carroll was making a left turn from El Toro Road to Santa Margarita Parkway in Lake Forest when he veered into oncoming traffic.A witness told investigators that Carroll ran a red light, he said. Witnesses "describe Mr. Carroll's truck like a train out of nowhere," Feldman said, adding that the force of the collision was like "100 mph" when combining the speeds of both vehicles.Carroll's attorney, Sara Ross, told jurors it was " a case of government overreach." SAN YSIDRO (CNS) - A 68-year-old man was struck by an SUV and killed crossing a street outside of a crosswalk in San Ysidro, police said this morning.The accident occurred near a Shell gas station in the 300 block of East San Ysidro Boulevard near Border Village Road about 9:25 p.m. Friday, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.A 45-year-old woman driving a 2016 Dodge Journey made a left turn out of the gas station parking lot onto East San Ysidro Boulevard at the same time the man attempted to cross from the south side of the street to the north side, Heims said.The man was struck by the vehicle and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, he said.Alcohol was not considered a factor in the crash and the person at fault was yet to be determined, Heims said.Anyone with information on this deadly crash was asked to call Traffic Division investigators at 858-495-7800 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 960

Upon finishing the tour, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland said sternly, “There is no crisis at the border. There is no justification for an emergency declaration at the border.” This was a direct contradiction to President Trump's reasoning to build a southern border wall. It has been almost one month since the Department of Homeland Security began implementing the new Migrant Protection Protocol (MPP). The policy forces migrants from Central and South America entering the United States without papers, or those claiming asylum, to in Mexico for the duration of their immigration proceedings. It's the second such success including "Berlin patient" Timothy Ray Brown.Such transplants are dangerous and have failed in other patients. The new findings were published online Monday by the journal Nature.The London patient has not been identified. He was diagnosed with HIV in 2003.
