The study was compiled by CSUSM, the school's Office of Business Research and Analysis, and San Diego Brewers Guild.Data did show that brewery openings slowed starting in 2017, but have rose slightly since. The majority of breweries are packed into Central San Diego, hosting 55% of craft breweries in the county, the report says. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A sailboat and power boat collided near the Coronado Bridge Sunday afternoon, injuring four people, according to San Diego Harbor Police.A good Samaritan drove by and noticed people floating in life jackets as their boat took on water. He picked up nine people and ferried them to Pepper Park. "It's just what you do you're a boater, it's what you're supposed to do, you help out on the water, people have helped us and we've helped other people," Kary Brownlee said. The damaged powerboat, a Bayliner, was towed back to the Pepper Park launch ramp where four passengers were evaluated for minor injuries. No one was taken to the hospital. The sailboat cruised back to Coronado on its own power."All it takes is a split second, when the captain is not paying attention that could cause a collision," boat safety advocate Amos Zolna said. He explained sail boats generally have the right of way, as they are harder to maneuver, compared to a power boat. Zolna said it's hard to navigate near the bridge, due to the large pillars that create blind spots.Harbor Police reported the 911 call at 1:28 p.m. They are investigating the cause of the crash and if any alcohol was involved. 1204

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new scam appears to target local Amazon customers worried about being victims of package theft.Neighbors at the Escala community in Mission Valley say package thefts have been an ongoing problem for the last few years.Could the trend be providing fuel for a scam? A recent encounter at the housing complex could point to a new method by scammers.Adriana Alberdi, who has lived at the complex for a decade, said she and other residents received an email from the property management company describing a recent visitor.According to the email, the man — described as blond and in his early 20s — was wearing a lanyard connected to a tablet. He had business cards and claimed to work at Amazon. At one point, the man went to the on-site office pushing to install an Amazon Key device in homes. The new service allows Amazon to gain access to a home or car to deliver packages and keep them from getting stolen. The email says the man was "pushy" and "argumentative," before finally leaving. Amazon confirmed the man was not an employee."It's like you're getting robbed of your security. You don't know who to trust anymore," said Alberdi. "This is new. I have never heard about this."Amazon says their employees don't go door-to-door. Anyone interested in Amazon Key has to contact the company by phone or through their website. 1354

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A new pilot program in San Diego hopes to break the barrier between older adults and ridesharing apps. Together, Jewish Family Service (JFS) and the Ed Brown Center are testing an outreach and education program connecting older adults with free ridesharing services so they can participate in health and wellness programs. The pilot program is part of a partnership with Lyft and the National Council on Aging (NCOA). The Ed Brown Center was one of three senior centers selected from across the country. The goal is to understand whether ridesharing can improve an older adult’s well-being by enabling them to travel to their local senior center to take part in activities such as health classes, nutrition programs, lifelong learning, and social opportunities.JFS partnered with Lyft two years ago to provide rides to seniors and individuals receiving breast cancer treatment. Called “On the Go: Navigator,” the program allows older adults to easily book rides to the grocery store, doctor’s appointments and more, without a smartphone. With this service, seniors must pay for the trip, as well as a service fee. San Diego seniors over the age of 60 can request a free Lyft ride to the Ed Brown Center:(858) 637-3210Monday through Friday7 a.m. - 7 p.m.Yoga, bingo, tai chi, and painting are among the activities offered at the center. 1364

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego gym owner said he is keeping his doors open despite state restrictions on indoor operations that took effect early Wednesday morning. For Shawn Gilbert, the owner of Boulevard Fitness in University Heights, keeping his business open is a matter of survival."I took a huge financial hit in May. Money out of my pocket that's never coming back. We have bills to pay, we have rent to pay,” Gilbert told ABC 10News.Gilbert said he believes his gym can operate safely with face covering and social distancing guidelines because it is a large, open space with high ceilings. The gym also has an outdoor space that Gilbert plans to also utilize.According to Gilbert, none of his gym members or employees have tested positive for coronavirus.Gilbert told ABC 10News he’s prepared for any possible citations for staying open."We have a lawyer with six other gyms, all representing us gym owners. What [Gov. Gavin] Newsom did this time is unlawful. I find it criminal,” said Gilbert.Boulevard Fitness is closed Wednesday for cleaning, but the facility will reopen Thursday at 6 a.m. 1111
