CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Experts at the Living Coast Discovery Center are keeping a close watch on their animals after a student jumped into a shark enclosure on Tuesday. The video featured a Montgomery High School student climbing on rocks before jumping in the enclosure and swimming a lap. LCDC officials believe the student took part in the stunt on a dare. The boy was not in any danger from the sharks, which were primarily sharks that don't like to be spooked, experts said. "They don't like to be scared by all those quick motions and loud noises," said Elizabeth Argyle, the director of education and guest experience for the center. "You don't know the consequences that you're going to create, and for the animals, they get spooked by it." None of the animals were harmed. The center's care staff said their animals are doing well and a veterinarian performs check-ups weekly. The student’s actions took place weeks before the center is set to open a new display. The exhibit, called the "Sea of Change" will be about co-existing with and respecting animals, focusing on how humans can live with them harmoniously, said Argyle. "We're very deeply disappointed in the actions that some of these students chose to do," Argyle added. She hopes this incident will serve as a teachable moment for others. The Sweetwater Union High School District said the teen’s behavior was inappropriate. (AP) — One of two men convicted of stealing a firefighter's pickup truck during the deadliest wildfire in California history has been sentenced to 41 days in jail and three years of probation.The Chico Enterprise-Record reports Robert Depalma of Concow was also ordered to pay more than ,000 in restitution at his sentencing in Butte County Superior Court on Friday.Prosecutors said Depalma and William Erlbacher stole the truck from a California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection station on Nov. 8, when the wildfire broke out and largely leveled the town of Paradise and killed 86 people.Erlbacher admitted to taking the truck and Depalma admitted to driving it for several days. (KGTV) - While the current focus is on coronavirus, doctors are warning to not forget about other killers that are always present.Dr. Marilyn Norton is the Chief of Staff at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center and said they’ve seen drastic drops in the number of people coming in to get cancer screenings. She said the three most common cancer screenings are mammograms for breast cancer, Pap smears for cervical cancer and colonoscopies for colon cancer.Sharp Chula Vista saw an 87% decrease in mammograms in April and May of 2020 compared to the same time frame last year. The hospital did pause screenings at the beginning of the closure, but has been doing screenings again since May.Dr. Norton said these screenings can be some of the best life-saving measures.“We know that if patients get found at early stages, the chances of them dying from that cancer is much less,” she said.She said some of the reasons people still are not coming in to get screened could be because people don’t know screenings have resumed, or because people are worried about going to a hospital right now, but she said the difference between now and the beginning of the pandemic is that there is more knowledge of how to stop the spread of coronavirus now, so the hospital is taking preventative steps to keep patients coming in for screenings healthy.“Although there’s a lot of fear regarding the pandemic, we also have to realize that screening is very important to be able to try to catch that cancer at an early stage,” she said.She said she anticipates the lull in screening now to impact cancer rates in the next five to ten years because of cancer that could have been caught at an earlier stage, and she hopes people realize the importance of early screening now to stop that eventual increase.“Don’t ignore the screenings that need to be done in order for you not to have to die from cancer,” said Dr. Norton. 1927

CINCINNATI -- Police officers trying to arrest a man ended up fatally shooting him and wounding one of their own after the man struggled and drew a realistic pellet gun.Police were serving a robbery warrant for 20-year-old James Clay in an apartment in Cincinnati at about 3:40 p.m. Friday, according to Police Chief Eliot Isaac.The officers knocked, but there was no response.
