(KGTV) - A Frost Advisory was issued for San Diego County Valleys, prompting three key preparations to protect your pets, pipes and plants.The advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. Saturday through 8 a.m. Sunday, in cities including Escondido, El Cajon, San Marcos, La Mesa, Santee, and Poway.Ways to protect your plants is wrapping them before sundown, to retain heat, and watering trunks of trees with warm water the next morning.Wrapping pipes in towels to retain heat keeps them from freezing. In areas that see a hard freeze, leaving the faucet dripping overnight is one way to keep the pipes from freezing.Always remember to bring pets indoors. AKRON, N.Y. – 2020 has been a bit of roller coaster and for some, there's been more downs than ups.Before the pandemic, a roller coaster is exactly where you could find Eric Hall and his family. One summer day in 2019, something was getting in the way of his ride.“The guy did everything he could to get me in,” recalled Hall. “Which was not only super humiliating and humbling, but obviously at the same time it was very eye opening for me because something that I love to do, especially with my family, now my weight and my health was restricting me from doing that.”Hall knew he needed to change. But changing takes time, time he didn't think he had.“Prior to the pandemic, I was kind of hoping for more work from home, that's not necessarily what I had in mind was this,” said Hall.With an opportunity to be more healthy. Hall jumped on it. He insists he's not a paid spokesperson, but he swears by the app Centr. It's Chris Hemsworth's fitness app.“It wasn't like these like gargantuan bulky bodybuilders,” added Hall. “It was real people.”Hall weighed 330 pounds at his heaviest. Now, he weighs 165. He believes more time at home helped make that transformation a reality. ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) -- An 86-year-old man was hit and killed in the parking lot of an Alpine shopping center Thursday evening, according to authorities. Police say a truck hit the man on the 1200 block of Alpine Boulevard around 4:12 p.m. Thursday. Investigators say the driver of the truck didn’t see the man and backed over him outside a Chase Bank.A worker at a nearby Carls Jr. said the man was stuck under the truck following the accident. Authorities said the incident was a tragic accident and the driver won't face any charges.   572

(KGTV) — Homicide detectives were investigating after a woman was shot and killed in a quiet Alpine neighborhood on Saturday.Around 2 p.m., a resident heard a scream and called 911.San Diego Sheriff's deputies found a woman's body lying halfway out of the passenger seat of a car in front of a neighbor’s driveway in the 3000 block of North Victoria Drive.Deputies detained a man on foot about a half mile away with two hand guns, said Lt. Rich Williams, San Diego County Sheriff's Homicide Unit."The suspect in this case has been identified as forty-two-year-old Paul Paraschak of Alpine," said Williams.Paraschak has been arrested for one count of murder and booked into the San Diego Central Jail, where he is being held without bail. A school trip for the eighth grade Mentor, Ohio Public Schools students to Washington D.C. was set and ready to go. Students were excited, bags were packed, lots of money was paid. But on Tuesday — the day before the trip — Discovery Tours, the company contracted by the school district to handle the trip, canceled. What's 511 students multiplied by 5 each? That's 2,505 paid.Discovery Tours told Mentor Public Schools it had to cancel the trip because the company was unable to receive final confirmation for the hotel rooms. The school district said it contacted the hotel itself to get more information."We were told by hotel management that, under advice from the hotel's legal counsel, all they could disclose to us is: Discovery Tours was unable to meet the contractual obligations," Superintendent Bill Porter wrote in a letter to parents.However, the school district said Discovery Tours told them otherwise. But the superintendent said even if the district was able to secure the hotel rooms itself, it wouldn't feel comfortable entrusting the travel company with its students."I am sure you are feeling angry as you read this, as all of us have been since we received the news late this afternoon," Porter wrote. "We know this is an educational experience students look forward to for years prior to 8th grade that is being taken from them for no apparent reason."Porter said the middle school principals will bring all eighth graders together on Wednesday to discuss the situation, and school will be in session as usual.Mentor Public Schools said it is also working to address the financial implications of the cancellation. "Refunds for the trip are undoubtedly on everyone's minds and at this time, we do not have full explanations yet, but I can assure you, we will work diligently to secure restitution," the letter said.Lots of eighth graders are going to bed with sad faces Tuesday night. 1956
