SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- More than 20 people were arrested in San Diego as part of a statewide sanctuary enforcement operation carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.ICE officials said the arrests were made between Sept. 28 and Oct. 2, with the focus on “criminal aliens and individuals who have violated U.S. immigration laws.”According to officials, arrests were made in San Diego, Encinitas, Vista, Lakeside, National City, Poway, Fallbrook, Spring Valley, Escondido, Oceanside, and San Marcos.In a news release, ICE officials said:“Of those arrested, 10 were the direct result of sanctuary state laws that force local law enforcement not to honored a lawfully issued immigration detainer. Two arrests were the direct result of the law enforcement agency releasing the individuals prior to ICE being able to place an immigration detainer on their case.Of those arrested, over 80 percent had prior criminal convictions and/or pending criminal charges. Of those, the criminal offenses included Lewd and Lascivious Acts with a minor under 14 with Force, Domestic Violence, Assault, Possession of Control Substance for Sale, Possession of Control Substance, Vehicle Theft, Burglary, and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.One individual who was arrested during the operation will face federal criminal prosecution for having illegally re-entered the U.S. after their removal. Those who were primary targets of this operation have final orders of removal issued by a federal immigration judge. Their due process was completed, and they will be removed from the United States. The individuals who were arrested and require adjudication from an immigration judge will be placed in detention pending the outcome of their removal proceedings.”Gregory Archambeault, Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in San Diego, said, “The State of California has chosen to prohibit local law enforcement agencies from cooperating with ICE to protect public safety. These local agencies are forced to release criminal aliens to the street, abandoning the victims of crimes and the innocent members of their communities. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Pounds of marijuana, concentrates and edibles, cash, and handguns were seized from a Pacific Beach pot dispensary Thursday.San Diego Police raided Truly Green, located at 4150 Mission Blvd., at about 8 a.m. for illegally operating the business.The seizure included 57 pounds of high-grade marijuana, more than 1400 marijuana concentrates and edibles, ,100 in cash, and two handguns.Two employees were arrested for possession of marijuana for sale and operating a business without a permit. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police are searching for the man they say shot at two people in a Clairemont strip mall before fleeing in an SUV Wednesday morning.Police say a heavy-set Hispanic man shot at two men in the 5600 block of Balboa Ave. at about 9:30 a.m. The two men were standing near or were inside a red Ford Mustang, San Diego Police added.One of the victim fled the area on foot, while the other victim, a 21-year-old man, drove himself to a nearby urgent car facility. He was treated for a gunshot wound to the upper leg.The suspect was a passenger in a white GMC SUV that was being driven by a woman, SDPD said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Neighborhoods near the Miramar Landfill are reporting a resurgence of awful odors they believe are coming from the landfill. "You come out the door in the morning and it just hits you," said Matty Wuest of University City. About a mile away, fellow resident Janis Deady concurs. "Like last night at in the morning," she says, "the smell woke me up out of a dead sleep." So, exactly what does it smell like? The distant neighbors are at no loss for words. "If you take the natural gas smell," said Matty, "Mix that with dog poop and vomit. That's what it smell like." Janis said she'd lived near the landfill for more than 20 years without an issue, but that changed about three years ago. "All of the sudden in the 2016 we started smelling putrid, disgusting, horrid smells."The distant neighbors say complaints in 2016 lead to hearings with the San Diego County Air Pollution Control District; resulting in fines for the City of San Diego and mitigation measures that appeared to solve the problem. But in recent weeks they say the smell is back."You shouldn't have to live like that," said Janis, "Not when we pay these taxes." A public information officer for San Diego said by phone the short story is the rain. That as soon as the Miramar Landfill has a chance to dry out from all the recent rains, the odors will dry up as well. But residents say that's not sufficient. "I hope the city would mitigate this and not blame it on the rain or other excuses." Said Matty. "Bottom line," said Janis, "It's got to stop. This is from 2016 to now.
