BEIJING, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Wu Bangguo has urged northwest China's Gansu Province to blaze a new trail of development in the western region to realize sound and fast economic and social development.     Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), made the call when he was inspecting Gansu Province from Nov. 9 to 14. SANAA, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese military vessel arrived in the Aden port Saturday on a goodwill official visit for the coming several days, official SABA news agency reported.     The Chinese military vessel, named Chan Dokouh, is affiliated with the Chinese naval fleet now cruising in the international waters, SANA said.     The military ship and its crew were received by a number of senior Yemeni military and security officials at the southern military naval base in Aden, said the report.     The visit of the Chinese military vessel to Aden port came as part of the joint bilateral cooperation between Yemen and China, particularly in fighting terrorism, counter-smuggling, combating piracy and ensuring safety of navigation through international waterways, added the report.

BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States on Tuesday called on Iran to "engage constructively" with the P5+1 and to "cooperate fully" with the IAEA to facilitate a satisfactory outcome.     The call was made in a joint statement issued here after talks between Chinese President Hu Jintao and visiting U.S. President Barack Obama.     The two sides reaffirmed their strong support for a comprehensive and long-term solution to the Iranian nuclear issue through negotiations.     "The two sides agreed that Iran has the right to peaceful uses of nuclear energy under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and it should fulfill its due international obligations under that treaty," said the statement.     The two sides welcomed the talks in Geneva on Oct. 1 between the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) and Iran as "a promising start" towards addressing international concerns about Iran's nuclear program, and expressed their readiness to continue that engagement as soon as possible.     They emphasized in the joint statement that all efforts should be made to take confidence building steps and to call on Iran to respond positively to the proposal of the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). 

BEIJING, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- China will raise gasoline and diesel prices both by 480 yuan (70.28 U.S. dollars) per tonne from Tuesday, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) announced on its website Monday.     The benchmark price of gasoline will be 7,100 yuan a tonne and that of diesel 6,360 yuan a tonne, according to the NDRC.     The retail price of gasoline will climb by 0.36 yuan per liter and that of diesel will rise by 0.41 yuan per liter.     The country adopted a new fuel pricing mechanism, which took effect on Jan. 1.     Under the pricing mechanism, the NDRC will consider changing the benchmark retail prices of oil products when the international crude price changes more than four percent over 22 straight work days. The price hike can help relieve domestic refiners' pressure from soaring oil refining cost," said Wang Jing, an analyst on petrochemical sector with Orient Securities Company Limited.     The price hike was aimed to protect oil refiners' interests, ensure market supply and help lead rational consumption to promote energy-saving and emission reduction, the NDRC said.     The NDRC would take active measures to help reduce pressure brought to sectors like transportation, the NDRC said.     International crude oil price might continue to rise within this year as demand would continue to grow amid global economic recovery, Wang said.

BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said on Friday that China hopes to advance the strategic cooperative partnership with the Republic of Korea (ROK).     "We will work with the ROK to increase friendly exchanges at various levels and enhance pragmatic cooperation in various sectors," Hu told Kim Hyong-o, speaker of the ROK National Assembly.     Hailing the smooth development of China-ROK ties in recent years, Hu said the leaders of the two nations had maintained frequent contacts, exchanged views often and reached broad consensus on important issues.     "This gives strong impetus to the growth of bilateral relations," Hu noted.
