SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego police are investigating reports of a suspicious package near a downtown courthouse Tuesday.A package was discovered outside the courthouse at the corner of Union and W. B Streets just before 12 p.m., according to San Diego Fire-Rescue. Out of an abundance of caution, the area was secured and bomb arson investigators were called.Court proceedings were delayed for a short period of time.Upon further investigation, authorities found that the package contained an empty metal security box. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police are asking the public to help find the driver who left a man with several severe injuries along an Ocean Beach street last month.Police say at about 10 p.m. on Sept. 6, a 64-year-old man was walking his bike northbound in the bicycle lane of the 4000 block of Nimitz Blvd. The suspect, driving a newer model Nissan Versa Note hatchback (shown below), struck the victim. The driver sped off, leaving the man severely injured.The victim was taken to a nearby hospital suffering from several fractures to his pelvis, ribs, fibula, and foot. He also suffered lacerations and injuries to his bladder and liver. The man is expected to survive but remains hospitalized, police say.Police say the Nissan should have damage to its passenger side front headlight, fender, and side view mirror. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego City Council voted today on their intent to place a police reform measure on the November ballot.The resolution would create an independent commission on police practices in San Diego, if passed.“Today’s action is a big step in the right direction toward real accountability and transparency,” Council President Georgette Gómez said. “The Council's vote demonstrates our commitment to meaningful public-safety reform. In particular, I want to thank Councilmember Monica Montgomery for her leadership on this critical issue. I’m also grateful to Women Occupy San Diego, San Diegans for Justice, the ACLU of San Diego and Imperial Counties, Mid-City CAN, and the Earl B. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Gas and Electric says more than 21,000 residents could lose power amid a coming Santa Ana wind event.The company said Saturday it notified thousands of residents about the possibility of power outages to reduce wildfire risk both Monday and Tuesday.The outages could take place in south Orange County and north San Diego County. Click here to see a map of areas that could be affected.“The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for inland Orange County for 2 a.m. Monday through 6 p.m. Tuesday, and it has indicated that ‘any rainfall that occurs this weekend will not delay the fire weather potential for very long on early Monday,’” the company said.SDG&E says most Santa Ana winds come from the east and sweep through San Diego County’s backcountry.
