BELGRADE, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo on Wednesday met with Serbian President Boris Tadic, vowing to add new impetus to the traditional friendship between China and Serbia."I am here to help realize the consensus between the two heads of states, pushing forward our strategic partnership and traditional friendship," said Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), who arrived here on Wednesday afternoon for a three-day visit.Wu is the first NPC Standing Committee chairman to visit Serbia over the past decade. China and Serbia have kept long-time friendship, and shared mutual support and respect. ZHOUQU, Gansu, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- A new round of rains started to pound the mudslide-flattened Chinese town of Zhouqu Monday night, which has increased the possibilities of new mudslides occurring.The weather bureau in the Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in northwest China's Gansu Province, which administers Zhouqu County, issued a rainstorm warning Monday night, warning about the likelihood of new geological disasters.Rains started pounding Zhouqu at around 10 p.m., which, according to Gansu's provincial weather bureau, could last for five days and precipitation in some regions may reach 60 to 80 mm.The massive landslide on August 8 killed 1,254 people as of 4 p.m.Monday, with 490 still missing.Residents are ferried by a boat in landslide-hit Zhouqu County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in northwest China's Gansu Province, Aug. 16, 2010. BEIJING, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Housing prices in major Chinese cities rose 11.4 percent year on year in June, one percentage point lower than the increase in May, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Monday.This was the second consecutive month that China's property prices grew at a slower pace. Property prices in the 70 large and medium-sized cities grew 12.4 percent in May, 0.4 percentage points lower than that of April.On a monthly basis, June property prices in these cities fell 0.1 percent compared to the month before, the NBS said.New home prices rose 14.1 percent year on year in June, down one percentage point from May. Prices of second-hand homes gained 7.7 percent last month, compared with an increase of 9.2 percent in May.The Chinese government started a campaign in April to rein in soaring house prices, including tightened scrutiny of developers' financing, limited loans for third-home purchases, and higher down-payment requirements for second-home purchases.

BEIJING, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping Tuesday concluded his two-day official visit to Bangladesh and started his trip to Laos, the second leg of his four-nation tour.In Dhaka on Tuesday, Xi met separately with the country's opposition leader, parliament speaker and president.In talks with Khaleda Zia, chairperson of Bangladesh's main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Xi lauded what Zia has done to promote the Sino-Bangladeshi relationship.He said China appreciates very much Bangladesh's precious support on issues concerning China's core interests like the issues of Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang.He said China supports Bangladesh's economic development and will continue to do its best to help the south Asian country.Zia said China is a close and friendly neighbor of Bangladesh. TAIPEI, June 16 (Xinhua) -- China's eastern Zhejiang Province and Taiwan have agreed to deepen cooperation in agriculture, tourism, finance and other sectors, according to sources with a Zhejiang delegation which concluded its eight-day visit to the island on Wednesday.The sources said that the delegation, led by Zhejiang governor Lu Zushan, purchased 31 million yuan (4.5 million U.S. dollars) worth fruits and tea products from local farmers in Kaohsiung and Nantou.Zhejiang provincial government also pledged to help Taiwan farmers to sell their agricultural products in Hangzhou, Ningbo, Yiwu and other cities in the province and offer them preferential treatment in participating farm produce exhibitions.Zhejiang Province plans to increase its imports from Taiwan to about 10 billion U.S. dollars by the end of this year, from last year's 7.7 billion U.S. dollars.After the first six Zhejiang companies which have been permitted to conduct investment in Taiwan, Zhejiang government will promote more companies to invest in the island.Commercial banks in Zhejiang and Taiwan have also achieved cooperation agreement on financial service, insurance, futures trading and other services for small and medium-sized companies on both sides.Zhejiang is where many Taiwan people come from.The province is also a magnet for Taiwanese investment.
