(KGTV) - The newest show at the La Jolla Playhouse is giving audiences a modern take on a classic tale."Fly," tells the story of Peter Pan, but it puts the focus squarely on Wendy, showing her journey from Lost Girl to a young woman."A lot of times we have your typical ingenue Wendy where a lot of the events of Neverland happen to her," explains actress Storm Lever, who plays Wendy. "In this one, you really get to watch her find her voice and find her power and own her voice and own her power."The actor says the show is perfect for its time, after the rise of the #MeToo movement, the women's march and other female empowerment platforms."Our thesis is that growing up is good," says Isabelle McCalla, who plays Tinkerbell. "It's good to grow up, it's good to grow old, and there's something really powerful about being a woman.""We need a woman that's going to take control of her circumstances and not be a victim of her circumstances," adds Lever. "We need to be teaching little girls that that's the way to conduct themselves."The show also packs some major star power. Lever was part of the Broadway-bound hit musical "SUMMER: The Donna Summer Musical." (KGTV) -- A man was taken to the hospital after a shed in La Mesa collapsed on top of him.According to authorities, the incident happened on the 9100 block of Johnson Drive around 2 p.m.A resident in the area told 10News his neighbor hired a worker to take down the shed. Shortly after the project began, the shed collapsed.The worker was taken to the hospital in unknown condition. 406
LAS VEGAS — Neighbors living in a southwest Las Vegas neighborhood were shocked to a see a home in their area vandalized with swastikas.Morley Fulgencio said he noticed the swastikas all over his garage, his driveway and the steps leading up to his front door when he was taking his daughter to school Thursday morning."I was flabbergasted," Fulgencio said.After a short drive around the neighborhood, Fulgencio realized that only his house was the one vandalized. He said he has no idea why his home was singled out.Fulgencio said he hopes this was just a prank. Neighbors rallied together to show support, knocking on his door to help. Neighbor Brian Judd even arranged for crews to clean up the vandalism for free. Fulgencio says he's been overwhelmed by the support, and that it shows the idea of Vegas Strong. "It shows whatever hatred is out there, it's outweighed by human kindness," Fulgencio said. No one has been arrested, and the incident remains under investigation according to police. 1062
LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- 5G technology is the latest and greatest in wireless communication, but just how safe is it? A new cell phone tower near Lakeview Elementary School has parents concerned. “This just showed up overnight, There had been no explanation about it at all,” said Maria Tomasello. She and other parents say a county ordinance states the tower should be at least 300 feet from the school, but they were told this particular site was approved before the new rule.Parents are worried about the safety of the technology. “People might say that it hasn’t been studied enough and it’s safe, but why would we want to take that chance and expose our children and our staff.” RELATED: Protesters rally against 5G in San DiegoThe group says they’ve reached out to lawmakers and AT&T, but haven’t received the answers they want. 10News reached out to AT&T. The company said the tower in question is actually using 4G technology and there are no current plans for 5G at the site. Still, parents and many other concerned citizens have raised the question about the safety of 5G. Although parents are concerned, experts in the field say there’s nothing to worry about. “Let’s look at scientific studies done and not rely on anything people are putting out there about 5G,” said UCSD professor Sujit Dey. Dey is the director of the Center for Wireless Communications. He cautions people to be careful about where they get their information. That means 5G requires a greater number of smaller towers every few blocks. Dey says the bottom line is there is still more to learn, but he believes the technology is safe and may prove even safer that what we’ve been using. “Much safer actually than these big towers would have been,” Dey added.
