"We're going to have coverage from our helicopter unit."He added there will be 350 officers on the ground plus several large vehicles like dump trucks and buses to act as makeshift barriers.Some runners say crossing the finish line has become even more imperative now than ever."Just because this may be harder or scarier, it's not going to stop me," Sullivan said.Esther Reincke is dedicating her run to Cameron Robinson, who died in October's shooting.Robinson was her co-worker and running buddy."I can run now and Cameron can't," Reincke said. "That's really moving for me, to have somebody that was so young and so full of life and really just getting his life going."Before the race Sunday, 58 white cross memorials will be moved from the 'Welcome to Las Vegas' sign to a museum.If you are heading down to the marathon, there will be some road closures to keep in mind. Las Vegas Boulevard will be closed in both directions, between Sunset Road and Ogden Avenue from 2 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.  1819

The numbers change drastically based on experience and ambition.Welding instructor James Ramsey says there is big opportunity to make big money in the trades."You want to go out there and get your own truck and get your own rig ... that's when you're going to make the big bucks," Ramsey said. "After doing that for a couple years you don't even have to weld anymore. You can just hire some other guys to weld and you are just doing all the deals behind the scene."Getting qualified blue-collar workers is a challenge of its own.Dr. Kelly Moore of Lincoln College of Technology says while trade school enrollment is up for the past three years, there is still a shortage of students studying trades."The reason for that is because we spent so little time talking about the careers as an opportunity that we lost a generation," said Dr. Kelly Moore, Lincoln College of Technology. 1906

ROSARITO, Mexico (KGTV) - With the San Diego region's high cost of living, many are making their move south of the border to save money.For Marilyn Widd, every moment with her granddaughter Gracie is special when she visits her at a home in Vista."The area is beautiful. I love it," said Widd.Four years ago, Widd and her husband briefly thought about retiring in San Diego County. She is a retired teacher and her husband Les worked as an IT specialist.RELATED: Making It in San Diego: Cost of living in Rosarito"Just couldn't afford it. Didn't want a big mortgage in retirement."Instead they headed south, just south of Rosarito, where they bought a two-bedroom, 1,800-square-foot oceanfront home for 0,000."It's very tranquil. You hear the waves. We also have two Costcos ... a lot of the same products," said Widd.When it comes to health care costs, the Widds have options. The two have Medicare and get some of their medical treatments in San Diego. They also pay per month for a membership at a private hospital in Rosarito, a popular option with U.S. citizens.RELATED: Making It in San Diego: Prescription medication costs impacting San Diego families"The doctors treat me very well ... state-of-the-art diagnostics and all the same medication," said Widd.For Widd, the numbers add up."We have enough money to make ends meet and have a good lifestyle. We do get to travel," said Widd.She's not alone. Various estimates put the number of Americans living in Rosarito between 12,000 and 15,000. In the past few years, U.S. citizens have reported that number is increasing, especially among those under the age of 50 who commute to San Diego. Widd has seen it firsthand. Usually the number is closer to one volunteer. You have to think it's about the cost of living for them," said Widd.Like those commuters, Widd is a part-time San Diegan. Twice a month, Marilyn and her husband get in the car and make the 2-hour drive to visit their family. The trips are a priceless part of a life she now calls her dream retirement. "At the end of the day, we made the best choice for us. I expect to live in Rosarito forever," said Widd. 2628

  

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - Tyson Kirkpatrick's family is one of the first to own a home in Main Ranch - a planned development on the northeast end of El Cajon.They bought their brand new single-family home for a price in the low 500-thousands. That was about 0,000 less than the similar properties they were looking for over at Santee Lakes. "It was more of our price point," Kirkpatrick said. "It makes me feel great. It makes me feel very fortunate to be here."Main Ranch will ultimately grow to more than 130 new homes.Complete Coverage: Life in El CajonIn the last two years, El Cajon has seen as many as 850 new housing units get built. Prices for single family homes in the city are as much as 20 percent below the median for the county, which CoreLogic says was 0,000 in October. "We made a calculated decision that we wanted to be more competitive in this market," said El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells.Wells said the city has taken three key steps to attract builders. First, it eliminated developer impact fees which pay for important infrastructure related to the growth. The City of San Diego, for instance, charges as much as ,000 per unit. In El Cajon, the city instead relies on its general fund, boosted by a half-cent sales tax that expires in 2029, an issue now being studied at City Hall. Last April, the City Council hired a consulting firm to explore adding fees to developments, but Wells said he does not expect that to happen or any financial headwinds. "We're careful about how we spend our money, and we make sure we have to have enough money to take care of it," said Wells.The city also changed its zoning to allow developers who meet certain requirements to build without a public hearing. That reduces chances for opposition and costly delay.Finally, El Cajon has taken a more customer-service approach to interacting with developers whether for permitting at city hall or inspections on site. "In the City of El Cajon, it's tough but fair, and they give you a chance to alleviate some of their concerns on the spot," said Dan Scott, the construction superintendent at Main Ranch. In all, Wells says El Cajon is a great place to raise a family. He says adding housing that's affordable is a key way the city can encourage people to come see that for themselves. 2302
