The first iteration of the pier was constructed in the late 1880s, but major storms have force major rebuilds of the pier. The current version is Oceanside's fourth pier. Visit the amphitheater at its entrance, where visitors may catch musicians or cultural performers, or head all the way to the end of the pier for a bite at Ruby's Diner. In between, fishermen cast off and visitors look out from the pier and try to spot dolphins, seals, or sting rays in the waters below.California Surf Museum: Founded in 1986, the California Surf Museum has showcased a collection of surfboards and surf rarities, making one of the richest treasure troves of surf history ever. The museum houses revolving exhibits throughout the year featuring a wide array of topic in the world of surfing, significant surfboards, trophies, magazines, rare photographs and more. The museum also hosts events like book signings, film screenings, and special guests.Oceanside Museum of Art: Surround yourself in a world of fine art at Oceanside's Museum of Art. The museum showcases some of the finest art in Southern California including paintings, sculptures, studio furniture, architectural projects, and more. The museum is also hosts concerts, film screenings, culinary events, tours, and parties throughout the year, in addition several art exhibitions. Head over on the first Sunday of the month and admission is free. Oceanside Sunset Market: Every week, residents head down to Pier View Way to enjoy Oceanside's Sunset Market. The event comes every Thursday from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m., giving visitors the chance to enjoy the scenic sunset alongside delicious foods and desserts, live entertainment, and local shopping. More than 200 merchants span four blocks, boasting an array of fun, unique, and delicious finds. The free market also features fun for kids with a special "KidZone" packed with activities.Visit the Graves House: The famed home is known for its role in the 1986 action flick "Top Gun," as the home of "Charlie." The classic Victorian home, featuring architecture rarely seen nowadays, was built nearly 137 years ago. But depending on when you venture out to see it, it may be gone. The home is being relocated to Pacific Street to make room for the Oceanside Beach Resort. And you may visit as the home is still being restored, but its future has swirled with rumors that it could become an ice cream parlor. 3097

On Monday, electors gathered to formally affirm that President-elect Joe Biden was indeed the victor of the 2020 Presidential Election.During his Electoral College victory speech Monday night in Wilmington, Delaware, Biden spoke about how all Americans have the right to have their vote counted."In America, politicians don't take power," Biden said during his speech. "People grant power to them. The flame of democracy was lit in this nation a long time ago. And we now know nothing, not even a pandemic or an abuse of power, can extinguish that flame."He also praised election officials, who Biden said endured threats of violence and verbal abuse."One of the extraordinary things we saw this year was that everyday Americans, our friends and our neighbors, often volunteers, Democrats, Republicans, Independents, demonstrating absolute courage, they showed a deep and unwavering faith in and a commitment to the law," Biden said. "They did their duty in the face of the pandemic. And then they could not and would not give credence to what they knew is not true."WATCH RECAP:At 7:10 p.m. ET, Hawaii reported its electoral vote which had Biden receiving 306 votes to President Donald Trump’s 232 votes.Around 5:30 p.m. ET, President-elect Joe Biden received enough votes to affirm his presidential election win.California's 55 electoral votes put him over the 270-vote threshold with 302 votes Monday afternoon after a day of voting in each state.Electors meet at a place and time determined by their state and cast their votes. Voting took place throughout the country at various times Monday. Vermont was the first state to cast electoral votes when submitted its three votes for Biden. Tennessee followed shortly after by submitting its 11 votes for Trump.As of 5:30 p.m. ET, 534 out of the 538 Electoral Votes had been cast. Biden is expected to get 306 votes to Trump's 232 based on the results of the presidential election.Hawaii is the last state to cast their Electoral College votes, at 7 p.m. ET. Its 4 votes are expected to go to Biden. The Electoral College votes are formally counted during a joint session of Congress on January 6. Typically, the Electoral College vote is little more than a rubber stamp approval of the November election. However, the post-electoral government machinery has received more attention than in elections past due to President Donald Trump's attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.For instance, Trump has been personally pressuring Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, a Republican, to appoint a special session of the state legislator in the hopes of appointing new Electoral College voters — and threatening not to campaign for two Republican Senators that are up for re-election in January. OCEANSIDE (KGTV) -- The beach may still be Oceanside’s biggest draw, but increasingly, people are coming for the beer.With seven breweries, several tap rooms and San Diego’s first meadery, Oceanside is earning a reputation among those looking for a pint.“They’ve brought a really interesting liveliness to Oceanside,” said the city’s economic development manager, Michelle Geller.Geller estimates Oceanside’s beer businesses have created 50 to 75 jobs, along with other economic benefits.LIFE IN OCEANSIDE:From 'Ocean Side' to region's third-largest city5 places to spend the day in Oceanside“It tends to give way to businesses that want to have their offices in the downtown,” she said. “Employees just like that creative culture of craft beer.”The oldest active brewery in Oceanside is Breakwater Brewing, the first to take up residence along Coast Highway. It opened in 2008 during the teeth of the Great Recession, when downtown had a different feel.“Lot of crime,” said co-owner Shannon Sager. “We had people grabbing money. Our tip jar had like in it once, people ran in, grabbed it and ran out. We started gluing it to the table. That doesn’t happen anymore.”As the downtown landscape shifted, more breweries opened nearby.“The next thing you know, it started taking off,” Sager said.Bagby Beer Company, Belching Beaver, Legacy Brewing, Northern Pine Brewing, Oceanside Brewing Company and Golden Coast Mead now round out Oceanside’s craft scene. The city’s first brewery, Oceanside Ale Works, closed in 2018 amid an internal dispute, but Geller said two more breweries are expected to open soon. 1614

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Facebook says it has prepared new safeguards for the 2020 U.S. elections.The social media giant says the changes will help it better prepare to deal with candidates who prematurely declare victory or contest official results, as well as the possibility of voter intimidation by alleged — and potentially armed — “poll watchers.”It's also removing calls for people to “watch” polling places if the apparent goal to intimidate voters and election officials.The company will also halt all political advertisements once polls close on Nov. 3.
