BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) - While China disagrees with the so-called "Group of Two" (G2), its cooperation with the United States is indispensable for finding solutions to many problems of the world, said Vice Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai Friday.At the second Lanting Forum, Cui spoke highly of the cooperation the two countries have conducted and called for further coordination in more areas."Both China and the United States are countries of major influence on international affairs. BEIJING, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- A Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) leader Tuesday said government and Party officials should make more effort to deal with petitions and resolve public grievances.Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at a meeting in Beijing, where officials discussed work on petitions this year.Despite a drop in petition numbers last year, China would still face a lot public petitions this year since some people still had living difficulties while there were still too many social management problems, Zhou said.Government officials and Party cadres, particularly those at city and county levels, should meet petitioners in person and handle their appeals on a one-on-one basis, he said.Greater efforts must be paid to address unresolved petitions within a time limit, and to prevent more petitions at root by avoiding risks to stability in making policies, said Zhou, who is also the secretary of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee.Zhou said the government must not simply reject public petitions and should instead meet people's legitimate demands in petitions.Petitioners who disrupt public order should be handled in accordance with the law, he said.

SUZHOU, Jiangsu, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Public Security (MPS) has announced that the special campaign to crackdown on prostitution has been effective, with cases of prostitution and obscene performances in entertainment venues in October dropping 18.4 percent on a month-on month basis.The campaign in the latter half of the year attached increased importance to the investigation and punishment of the organizers of prostitution.The campaign also targeted business operators and the "protective umbrellas" - sometimes local government officials - that allow prostitution to happen, according to a document released at a ministry work conference in Suzhou Saturday.More effort must be made to educate and rehabilitate women involved in the prostitution and obscene performance cases, the document said.According to the document, the MPS sent 27 groups of inspectors to 651 entertainment business venues in four municipalities and 20 provinces during the campaign. At some 381 of the venues, cases of prostitution or obscene performance were discovered.In July, the ministry sent 10 inspection groups to eight cities in Jilin, Shanghai, Guangdong, Hainan, Sichuan and Shaanxi, to raid 10 entertainment venues, resulting in the arrest of 370 suspects.In the following three months, the ministry and local police solved 54 major cases, the document said.

BEIJING, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang has called for strengthening efforts in ecological and environmental protection as the country strives for economic restructuring and improving people's livelihoods.Li made the remarks Monday at a meeting on the application of research results on China's environment. LUANDA, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Zhong Shan said here on Thursday that China would help Angola in diversifying its exports to China as part of the efforts to boost trade relations between the two countries.Zhong made the pledge during his meeting with Angolan Minister of Trade Maria Idalina Valente to explore ways of further expanding trade and economic ties between the two countries.Zhong said China has attached importance to developing ties with Angola, the largest trading partner of China in Africa, and the 2010 visit to Angola by Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping brought Sino-Angolan ties to new highs.The Chinese official said crude oil was almost the sole product of Angola which ended up in Chinese markets despite the fact that trade volume between the two countries amounted to some 25 billion U.S. dollars in 2010, and the Chinese government has decided to reduce or waive tariffs on Angolan exports to China from January 1, 2011 to encourage Angolan businessmen to export more products to China, including agricultural produces, fish and other marine products and diamonds.Zhong said China and Angola have made substantial progress in bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy, basic infrastructures and agriculture, and the Chinese government has encouraged Chinese enterprises to invest in Angola and make technological transfers to the African country as well.For her part, Maria Idalina Valente said Angola welcomed China's proposal to expand bilateral trade and economic cooperation on the basis of the strategic partnerships hammered out during Xi Jinping's visit to Angola.The Angolan minister said the biggest challenge faced by her government is to diversify its oil-dependent economy and to build up industrial and manufacturing capabilities in the national economy.She said Angola is trying to improve its investment conditions and hopes to reach an agreement with China on the protection of investments by the year 2012.The minister said her country is also keen on learning from China's development experiences in setting up special economic zones and zones of processing products for exports.Zhong arrived in Luanda earlier in the day for a two-day work visit to the African country.
