Long-time cartoon sitcom “The Simpsons” announced on Friday that non-white characters will no longer be voiced by white actors.“Moving forward, THE SIMPSONS will no longer have white actors voice non-white characters,” the show said in a statement on Friday. While the main characters on the cartoon are white, there are several characters of color. Most notably, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, who was voiced by Hank Azaria. In 2018, Azaria said that he would no longer voice the convenience store clerk after the show faced criticism that Nahasapeemapetilon’s character plays up Indian-American stereotypes“The most important thing is, we have to listen to South Asian, Indian people in this country when they talk about how they feel and what they think about this character,” Azaria said on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”Several other minor characters of color on “The Simpsons” include Officer Lou and Carl Carlson, both of whom were also voiced by Azaria.Earlier on Friday, Mike Henry, who voices Black character Cleveland Brown on Fox cartoon sitcom "Family Guy," announced he will no longer voice Brown. "It’s been an honor to play Cleveland on Family Guy for 20 years. I love this character, but persons of color should play characters of color. Therefore, I will be stepping down from the role," Henry said. 1324

Lockdown restrictions prevented an estimated an additional 60 million coronavirus infections in the U.S. alone, according to a study by the scientific journal "Nature."The article studied COVID-19 data in the U.S., China, South Korea, Italy, Iran and France. It determined that there would have been more than 500 million cases of the virus in those six countries alone without lockdown measures in place through early April.Authors said they could not think of any human endeavor that has saved so many lives in such a short period of time. Researchers did not speculate how many people would have died without lockdown restrictions. As of Tuesday, more than 7 million people worldwide had contracted the virus and more than 400,000 people had died. The U.S. continues to lead the world in both total infections (1.9 million) and deaths linked to the virus (111,000).The study comes weeks after researchers at Columbia determined that more than 36,000 lives could have been saved in the United States had officials enacted widespread lockdown restrictions just one week earlier. 1086

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A former business manager of Stan Lee was arrested Saturday on elder abuse charges involving the late comic book legend.Keya Morgan was taken into custody in Arizona on an outstanding arrest warrant after being charged by Los Angeles County prosecutors earlier this month.Morgan faces felony charges including theft, embezzlement, forgery or fraud against an elder adult, and false imprisonment of an elder adult. A misdemeanor count also alleges elder abuse.Authorities say Morgan sought to capitalize on the Marvel Comic mastermind's wealth and exert influence over Lee even though he had no authority to act on his behalf.Police say Morgan pocketed more than 2,000 from autograph signing sessions Lee did in May 2018. Authorities say Morgan at one point also took Lee from his Hollywood Hills home to a Beverly Hills condominium "where Morgan had more control over Lee."Lee's daughter said in a request for a restraining order last year that Morgan was manipulating the mentally declining Lee, preventing him from seeing family and friends, and trying to take control of his money and business affairs.Attorney Alex Kessel has said Morgan has never abused or taken advantage of Lee. Kessel said in an email on Saturday that he had been in contact with prosecutors to arrange for Morgan to surrender on Tuesday."It is unfortunate that the DA and police did not honor our commitment to surrender next week and arrested him," Kessel said in an email.Lee died in November at the age of 95.Morgan's bail has been set at 0,000. He will eventually be extradited to Los Angeles to face the charges. 1626
