BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping on Friday attended a graduation ceremony held by the Party School of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.Xi, also president of the CPC's top Party school, awarded graduation certificates to the 682 officials who had finished the school's autumn semester and about 3,000 officials who completed studies at the school's four branches.Vice president of the school, Li Jingtian, called on the graduates to continue studying, implement the principles and policies at the 5th plenary session of the 17th CPC Central Committee and Central Economic Work Conference, as well as the concept of putting people first in the party's daily work.

WASHINGTON, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Friday rejected a zero-sum formula on U.S.-China relationship, saying that the two countries have much more to gain from cooperation than from conflict.Delivering a speech on the future relations between the U.S. and China at the State Department, Clinton said it does not make sense to apply zero-sum 19th-century theories of how major powers interact in the 21st century."We reject those views," she said, referring to views which depict China's growth as a "threat" or U.S. policy on China as " containment."The State Department described the speech, delivered to inaugurate an annual forum dedicated to veteran U.S. diplomat Richard Holbrooke, as setting stage for a state visit by Chinese President Hu Jintao next week.Clinton said that the world is moving through uncharted territory and needs new ways of understanding the shifting dynamics of the international landscape, a landscape marked by emerging centers of influence, but also by nontraditional, even non-state actors and the unprecedented challenges and opportunities created by globalization.This is a fact that is especially applicable to the U.S.-China relationship, she said, noting that the engagement between the two countries can only be understood in the context of this new and more complicated landscape."We are in the same boat. TIANJIN, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang has called for more efforts to accelerate economic restructuring and improve people's living standards amid the country's consolidated economic growth momentum.He made the remarks during his two-day inspection in Tianjin, a north China port city, that ended Tuesday.He urged more efforts on economic restructuring while ensuring "relatively fast economic growth" and "managing inflation expectations" .Li also emphasized regional economic growth as the "new engine" for the overall development and stressed development of new strategic industries and hi-tech sectors to provide the impetus for the growth.During his visit to a grain reserve, Li asked local authorities to "try all means" to increase grain production, ensure supplies and reserves, and regulate the market to better manage expectations of inflation.Further, local governments should build low-income housing "on a massive scale" to increase housing supplies for low-income households, Li said while visiting a residential community under construction.He also asked hospitals to provide better services and called upon local authorities to offer help to low-income families.
